One of the most blatant examples of "fake news" in recent times is the whole Covington debacle in USA. A young white man was photographed face to face with an elderly Native American Indian. This image appeared round the world with an accompanying narrative that rich, entitled white boys were mocking and harassing a peace loving Indian elder. The rush to judgement became an epic stampede as politicians, activists of various persuasions, movie stars...even the boy's own school and Church spoke out in condemnation.
Then the eye witness accounts and further footage began to trickle in, with the result that an entirely different story emerged. Sadly, not before this teenager was vilified across the word.
What made him a target? He was a Trump supporter, he was a Christian and he was opposed to abortion... and oh yes, he was a privileged white male.
