For example the two witnesses that the democrats claimed as devastating were asked at end of their sessions by republicans whether they had ever received instructions or witnessed instructions being given by Trump to use aid to coerce Ukraine and the answer was no. That means essentially that their evidence was either opinion or heresay which in a court would have not been permitted.

These snippets have gone viral, and have severely undermined the democratic case. The forthcoming senate trial will then focus on Biden, the whistle blower etc. That Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are senators and will have to ditch campaigning to attend is also a bonus for the republicans.

You need to separate criticism of the process from any opinion of the facts.

The reality is that the democrats have largely ignored pretty much every facet of due process, and if this was a court trial, most of the testimony would have been thrown out. This has poisoned the process to the point where the republican senator and congressmen are outraged with the result that the chance that Trump will be exonerated by the senate is a virtual certainty, and the chance of the senate taking retribution is very high.
