Its a no brainer, hundreds of thousands of kids have been saved by vaccination. Hard to believe there are people opposing vaccination.

One only has to walk around a large cemetery in our larger cities to see the number of infants graves to realize the death rates of children was extremely high.

Look forward to more and more vacines being available.

I would think that the 1905 - 1920 Smallpox epidemic in the Philippines was caused by bad batches of the Vaccine. Don't forget that Smallpox is the one of the most deadliest Viruses known to man & the hardest to kill.

Another Virus that has almost been eliminated through Vaccine is Plague. In three epidemics in the last 1000 years it almost wiped out the entire human population.

From personal experience. I was one of the first people in the world to have the Flu Vaccine. They gave it to 2 R.A.R in November 1965. Almost the entire Battalion came down with the Flu & they Quarantined Enoggera. So much for Xmas leave that year. Bad eggs apparently. No one died but it was touch & go for a while.

Ok, we have mentioned Polio. You wouldn't want Polio, believe me. Anyone old enough to have friends & relatives here would know.

If you go to the Ravenswood & Charters Towers Children's Cemeteries in North Queensland you will hardly find any child over the age of 6. They all died of Yellow Fever, Smallpox, Diphtheria & Hooping Cough & a few others like Cholera, Dengue Fever & Scarlet Fever. There are thousands of them in just two Cemeteries. No Vaccines for those scourges in those days.

It's very sad place & the Church on the hill is said to have the Ghosts of the children playing in the Church yard some nights.

Anyone who is against Vaccination should visit these Cemeteries. There are always flowers on graves.

I can beat you on the 'flu shot; 2 Base Workshops, 1957, experimental 'flu shots that did bugger all as far as any immediate reaction but I didn't get the 'flu for a number of years and then only mildly.

It is nothing short of amazing how crack-pots pushing anti-vaccination, circumcision, water birthing and so on are able to get at young parents-to-be.

I don't mean this unkindly but women are more disposed than men to prefer the unscientific, including appeals to intuition, third-hand anecdotal bollocks, even self-appointed 'experts' on day shows and in women's magazines. Pregnancy doesn't help. It is a time of vulnerability.

It is incumbent upon men to go to the doctors and be present at childbirth education as well and ensure they educate themselves and are firm on the facts and resolute in supporting their women. Not a bad idea to turn up at those mums soirees where a lot of odd stuff is discussed as fact. Mothers have very protective feelings about their offspring and those feelings are easily manipulated by confident sounding charlatans.

I can remember some very strange stuff being promoted in all sorts of venues/avenues you might not expect. Odd but some nurses have the official patter when 'doctor' is within earshot and something different when 'doctor' goes. That applies especially to pain control.
