' Is this movement driven mainly by discredited fears and therefore will die out or is the impetus a sign of a selfish society,'
killing the unborn shows we are a totally selfish society. Posted by runner, Sunday, 23 February 2014 2:43:00 PM

runner, nearly as bad as letting hopeless cases suffer for the do-gooders to feel good. Posted by individual, Sunday, 23 February 2014 2:54:43 PM

Is Mise, you are lucky you lived on to argue with me on these pages, after having whooping cough :)
I can remember as a young nurse, holding upright a 14 month old baby as it coughed, vomited and turned blue about every 3 minutes. She had whooping cough. Her trendy, anti-vaccination mother sat sobbing beside the cot, and it took all that I had not to yell at her to get out! Of course I didn't, because I figured that watching her baby suffer for months was punishment enough... Runner, why not start your own thread on the unborn? Just leave all the other threads out of your obsession. Posted by Suseonline, Sunday, 23 February 2014 5:43:34 PM

It's also a shame that so many posters, here and elsewhere, shew their incompetence/ignorance by using "your" as a contraction of "you are" instead of "you're".

What is the world coming to?
I find myself in complete agreement with you!!
I remember being wracked by whooping cough and all that could realistically be done in my childhood was to isolate the patient and hope for the best.
Measles were a scourge as were mumps and the latter could be a swift killer after puberty.
A workmate who was the same age as me,15, was at work and healthy on Monday, reported in sick on Tuesday and died on Wednesday from mumps.
We went to his funeral on the Friday.
I was lucky as I'd had mumps at about 6 years, my parents had made sure that I visited and played with a school mate that had mumps, an early and fairly sure way of developing some immunity.
