*Just as we didn't load up boats full of Italians or Vietnamese when a small group did wrong nor should we be talking about doing to same to Muslim Australians.*
Did it ever occur to you Csteele, that perhaps because Australians kicked up a stink about violent Vietnamese and Italians, that their countrymen had every reason to do something about the problem? In a way you are comparing apples and oranges here, because a religion actively preaching violence and doing so in the streets, is a whole other ballgame. But its only with enough pressure from the general community, that muslims will realise the urgency to address the problem of their fellow believers. There is nothing wrong with Australians calling a spade a spade. Calls for deportation will even do some good and make those fanatical Islamists realise that Australian tolerance cannot be abused and that Australians mean business. Pussyfooting around gently, can be a dismal failure. Posted by Yabby, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 1:50:42 PM

I am proud to have been a member of the State Emergency Service SES. And to know many who still are very active. Almost every one is an unpaid volunteer, no pay but there 24/7. From roof blown off to flood no group should ever be less of a target. No group more unworthy of this gutless over reaction,a deliberate insulting attack on innocents. Like every human bomb, usually an innocent sent to die for a cause. The thread demands the culprit be caught, and helped,his/her target? would not even be aware of this act. And who? other that this fool and his like, can see the film as a intended insult to his/her God. Posted by Belly, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 5:41:24 PM

Yabby very true.
And an open door for real change. Without a religion that seems bigoted, has not changed with the times, we would not have this trouble. I too think room exists for other views, Islam does not. Never can, it draws lines that can not change. And lets its followers, advises them, to lie,yes lie. AVALANCHES OF WORDS INCRIMINATING us telling me and others we are racist hide true problems in trying to defend the undefendable, and ignoring the need for change. Csteel: What I am defending is this country's great legacy of accepting large immigrant groups and working through the issues that have arisen. There are many wrongs that can be laid at the feet of immigrants.
I, too can defend this country's great legacy of accepting large immigrant groups. Yes, we have had our problems. Here is my list. British, Irish, French, Germans, Dutch, Scandinavian, Poles, Spanish, Swiss. Protestant & Catholic, hard workers, fitted into Australian society. Kiwis, same as us, except, keen on sheep. Yanks, same as us, except full of ‘em selves. Italians, drugs, Mafia, great food, Catholic, hard workers, fitted & assimilated into Australian Society. Greeks, Well, Greeks, great food, if one likes squishy grape leaves, Orthodox, Well almost Catholic, sort of, hard workers, fitted & assimilated into Australian society. Vietnamese, drugs, great food, Catholic & Buddhist, hard workers, have fitted & assimilated into Australian society. Chinese, been here forever, Triad, drugs, great food, Buddhist mostly, hard workers, most have fitted & assimilated into Australian society. Indian, con-men, great food, Hindu, have for the most part fitted in to Australian society, whinge worse than Poms. Lebanese, drugs, extortion, violence, rape, gangs, great food, Muslim, have not fitted into Australian society. Horn of Africa, gangs, violence, rape, crap food, Muslim, very few have fitted into or assimilated into Australian society. Middle East, drugs, gangs, rape, violence, crap food, Muslim, have not fitted or assimilated into Australian society. In fact want Australians to change & fit in with their society (Religion). Jaybe, well you, I and all level headed folk know, this country prospers still from migration. We too understand while these folk you name have integrated, they still have their own cultures if they want them. To try, yes try, to convince ANY ONE Muslim Migration is multiculturalism, is waste full. IT NEVER WILL BE Constricted by a faith that has determined we are lessor, it has no chance. My link informs of yet more heartless murder of innocent unarmed youth, murdered for being Christian. This thread could be ten thousand posts long, just by reporting international crimes committed in the name of this God. But maybe it is time to consider leaving it on the shelf, till our world is rocked again by SOME from the extremes of a faith that seems intent on highlighting our differences . I'm in furious agreement that we should be intolerant of intolerance since that is exactly what I have endevoured to do here.
What I am defending is this country's great legacy of accepting large immigrant groups and working through the issues that have arisen.
There are many wrongs that can be laid at the feet of immigrants.
The killing of Donald McKay by the 'Italian mobsters' in Griffith certainly had reverberations in my school yard at the time with plenty of anti 'Wog' sentiment flowing. All Greeks and Italian immigrants were painted with the criminal brush and from memory questions about the wisdom of continuing to allow further migration from the region were raised in parliament.
The Vietnamese immigrants were the next to be tarred with the brush of criminality, particularly after the death of John Newman who was the victim of Australia's first political assassination. He had been under threat from Asian gangs for quite a while.
Just as we didn't load up boats full of Italians or Vietnamese when a small group did wrong nor should we be talking about doing to same to Muslim Australians.
So yes you should be intolerant about intolerance but not in a way that breeds more of what you are claiming to combat. By all means Muslim intolerance, when it presents itself, needs to be challenged strongly, not only from us but particularly within that community and I see every sign this is happening.
However the last thing we need is an Australian Anders Breivik yet the path many on this thread have advocated steers us toward rather than away from such a possibility.
