Poirot: I haven't bothered reading the rest of your post/s.

So, are you worried that you might see something that may force you into reality. The usual approach of people who keep their heads in the sand in case they might see something they don't like. Sad, So sad.

Remember, A day you didn't learn something is a day you've wasted.

I don't dislike you, as a person, Poirot. It's the Dogma I dislike.

If Iraq had a high standard of Education it fairs not very well for the rest of the Middle East, doesn't it. A place you admire so much.

No wonder there is a loss of respect in our society - a very ugly thread indeed.

Hi Bonmot,

Gosh, I didn't know the organ-grinder had so many monkeys, to trot one out to do its brilliant dance, once another one has fallen exhausted by the wayside.

With respect, what do you mean by your comment ? Or is it yet another way to dodge having to respond to relatively reasonable queries, and having to confront real issues ?

But of course, if you have nothing really to say, ......

Cheers,

Joe

Charmed I'm sure, Loudmouth.

I agree with bonmot - at least he had the sense not to get sucked into it.

I'm sorry, Poirot, sucked into what ? Do you mean controversial issues ? What might they be in this context ?

Might they have something to do with the problematics of multiculturalism - I'm in favor of MC by the way, but I recognise that its application is always fraught with tensions about whose culture, whose values, whose ideological foundations, and that there may be people who seek to modify those very foundations in a reactionary way. True ? False ?

And there is the issue - the rationale for this thread - of how to tolerate the intolerant - the contradiction of welcoming people who turn out to have intentions and agendas which may tend to undermine, or even destroy, the values on which that hospitality is predicated.

In a small way, it is possible that that 'riot' was very much like an act of war - to hell with some idiot video, that only provided the pretext for a group to get stuck into police as the representatives of a relatively free and open society. So in a way, when they pelted the police with bottles and smashed up their cars, it was a sort of precursor to what the jihadists intend to do with Australia writ large: convert or go under the sword, all 22 million of us.

Wait and see. If you don't agree, don't just slag, but make some attempt to explain your point of view. Don't obfuscate, Poirot, don't try to divert the conversation - grapple with the issues. Don't simply accuse people of having an 'ugly' point of view - explain why you think so, Bonmot.

And please, for god's sake, let's not re-live the Crusades. We can all play that silly game till the cows come home. After all, what did the Romans ever do for us ?

Cheers,

Joe

Loudmouth,

"...don't just slag.."

Coming from the master strawman constructor and provocateur extraordinaire, that's rich : )

"...sucked into what..."? he asks.

I've just hobbled through the first ten pages of this thread, and sped through the next twenty.

Sucked into this:

"Why the hell do we have this garbage here...."

"I wonder if we have any pollies with enough guts to ban men wearing dresses, with rags on their heads?"

"With the likes of this rubbish and our peaceful invasion from illegals..."

"I think our government should head the warnings coming from "real Aussies" and cease allowing all the world's garbage to fill our country..."

"The police should not have used dogs they did not clear them fast enough.
INSTEAD I propose the police have a new recruit PIGS (real ones) now if they are real Muslims they will soon run from a pig."

NO MORE MUSLIMS & those that have not got citizenship straight back where they came from."

"...Ali bin csteel..."

(I noted many many more, but you get the drift)

That kind of gives you a picture of the sort of mentality alive on this thread, don't you reckon, Loudmouth? And all your blather about trying to get down to the nitty-gritty is always either preceded or succeeded with some sort of petty insult...as in:

"Hi Bonmot

Gosh I didn't know the organ grinder had so many monkeys..."

You're a disingenuous prat, Joe. Why would anyone want to seriously debate you when you consistently treat people with disdain?

Here's something Bazz wrote way back at the beginning of the thread. It was aimed at the rioters, but it describes most of the posters on this thread just as well:

"People with behaviour problems usually overreact to anything that they don't like or which offends them."

How true.
