Individual - Yes I have seen that quote before, apparently attributed to Dr Adrian Rogers.

So very true.

Indy, very good, just what I've been saying about Pensioner Welfare, which is tipped to grow by a factor of three in a very short space of time, then the skies the limit. All we need is a Pensioner National Service, which run correctly will get the Old folk out of gods waiting room, and away from the one arm bandits, and into productive work. All at minimul cost to us taxpayers. Can I count you in? Fresh air, sunshine, muscle building exercise, great tucker, BTW How are you on baked beans for dinner 7 days a week? Just asking, might have spaghetti for a Sunday treat.

Individual,

I like what George Bernard Shaw had to say:

"A government that robs Peter to pay Paul
can always depend on the support of Paul."

The purpose of tax was to pay for retired Pensions,If you have worked and paid tax you are entitled to support in senior years.

http://www.upinsmokesignal.com/history-of-the-aged-pension-in-australia.php
"The Australian Pension scheme was set up in 1946 by the Chifley/Curtin Governments in a bipartisan agreement with the Menzies opposition. An income tax levy of 7.5%, called a social services contribution, was introduced to be used exclusively to finance social security cash payments. This contribution was paid into what was called a National Welfare Fund, from which payments were to be made. The fund was to be supplemented by subventions from payroll tax and general revenue.

Mr. Menzies stated that the Compulsory Contribution levy should be kept separate so that “the stigma of charity should be removed from the Age Pension. It should be an entitlement earned by the person’s personal contribution to the fund.” However in 1950 when the balance in the fund was almost 100 million pounds the levy was grouped with Tax Paid, but was still collected".

IT IS PAID FOR BY OUR OWN TAX CONTRIBUTION.

The truth is the socialists side of politics has had visions of some scheme or another which would provide for workers in their retirement. The conservatives believe that provision is a personal responsibility, and where one through their own failings can't provide then private charity is best. 'Pig Iron' Bob had no philosophical commitment to pensions, and he simply reduced it to a bread line payment for the poor.
