On first preferences, although there was -1.39% swing against the ALP, the Libs also had a 0.68% swing against them too and the Nats lost 0.10%. The only way the coalition won was from preferences from Palmers UAP plus One Nation and in the end had won only one more seat than the previous election and the overall 2 party preferred result was only a 1.17% swing - hardly a landslide.

Since then the Nats have seen they're in trouble and have become denim-clad coal-fondlers and trying to win coal-based seats, despite their history of trying to set up cheap accommodation for FIFO workers to displace local coal miners.

Now their economically responsible myth is in tatters and refugees and terrorists have faded from the headlines, their strategy is now lining up to be the "tough on China" candidate.
