Yuyutsu,
<<It is all about Scomo's terrible [non-]handling of the COVID pandemic, particularly around vaccines and quarantine.>> I agree, along with the rest of your comments. Aiden, <<But didn't they come out spectacularly wrong last election?>> Well that was a different time. COVID-19 was not an issue. "An opinion poll is a survey, or snapshot, of political opinion. Polls can't predict the future and usually only give an approximate view of what voters thought last weekend." From Antony Green ABC Election Analyst. I doubt COVID-19 will be gone by next weekend or the next Federal election, and if the Prime Minister doesn't tidy up his act or gets given the boot then the results look pretty clear. Well why not.
The US has voted [perhaps] in the most incompetent president ever. The UK has a now totally addled brained Prime minister & soon a similarly dumb king. Why shouldn't we have a total dill in the lodge here as well? It seems to be the fashion to go along with ratbag global warming & Covid virus policies. France & Canada both have effeminate mummies boys & the Germans have gone from a fool to the totally ratbag, why should we be the odd man out. Having said all the above, I suppose Albanese could only be slightly worse than the so called national cabinet. However if it happens people will want to get the hell out of Victoria very quickly, as there will be little to hold dictator Dan from going full communist. There are members of the GREENS, who believe it's absolutely necessary to replace ScumO with Albo, I'm not one of those people, who base their politics on the lesser of two evils theory. I agree there is a bit of house keeping that needs doing in Canberra, the place hasn't had a good clean out in 10 years, the rotting garbage is well and truly on the nose. The putrid bag full of Cry Baby Porter and Barnyard Joy needs to be dumped at the tip. Well the third bedroom needs to be converted to a room for the lads from the ICAC, and the abodiginy folks need to move in and tells us what to have for breakfast. And no more letting Dangerous Dan order chow feeds on a Friday night from the Golden Dragon. I also think it might be a good idea if we stop building swimming pools and car parks in Snob Ives, they've got 50 of em already, might build a school down at Unpleasent Valley, where there is no school for those Unpleasent kids, just a jail.

Well my two bits worth;
I don't think it will matter too much who wins. Energy will take control fairly soon. In the next weeks the brain washed 18 year olds will be registering to vote. They may tip the vote to the Labour Party on teacher's instructions. Either way it will not matter. Both parties favour installing more wind and solar. As Liddel is to close either in 2022 or 2023 at the latest followed by Yallorn the sudden onset of load shedding will make whatever government so unpopular that they will have to announce a reversal of policy and rush build a couple of Natural Gas power station as a patch up job while they order two or three nuclear modular stations from Rolls Royce. This holiday period was enlightening. I have two iridescent green daughters-in-law one ex teacher one current high school teacher and they were discussing the next election and various policies. I just listened for a while and said nothing, but then injected that they have missed the most important policy Energy ! Wow I thought I must have sworn ! They immediately pounced on me and ended the discussion and got up and went into the kitchen. Lesson, greenies are very sensitive to the subject of energy. Obviously they have realised the policy is fatally flawed but cannot change their policy publically. This ties in with other incidents I have noticed without realising the significance of energy in the coming election. Posted by Bazz, Wednesday, 29 December 2021 2:26:00 PM

The polls didn't "come out right" at the last election. You seem to have forgotten that Nathan. Labor lost the 'unloseable' election. However, as the Coalition is going to the polls with the same ridiculous Zero Emissions policy that Labor had - except for the legislation bit - there is no telling what will happen, apart from lots of votes going from the Coalition to the UAP, the Liberal Democrats and One Nation (maybe). We don't have a clue.
A Morrison-led Coalition certainly does not deserve to be returned. It has adopted Labor policies thinking that will help. How cynical and self-serving! What a poor quality, value-free PM Morrison has turned out to be - less trustworthy than the previous two 'worst prime ministers ever', Turnbull and Rudd. Personally, I don't give a stuff who wins. I'll be voting 1,2 and 3 for the options I mentioned above. Oh, and don't forget that Morrison has let the state premiers piddle all over him on Covid. ttbn,
<<Oh, and don't forget that Morrison has let the state premiers piddle all over him on Covid.>> I agree. There is some sort of pact in place to not upset the premiers too much. This is due to the fact from Scott Morrison's viewpoint and other Liberal members, that if we have predominately Liberal State/Territory Premiers in power and a future Labor PM, then these Liberal Premiers can pour whatever they want all over a Federal Labor Government - and make their life a mess. Labor would take the same attitude. If anything though it has lead to a Federal Parliament having little to no say on COVID-19 matters, (like antigen tests) when Federal Parliament should have had more say on policies here. I mean it's a national issue. For example at the moment some states have antigen tests for free, with others you pay. "FINALLY: Victoria And NSW Are Making Rapid Antigen Tests Free" http://www.pedestrian.tv/news/rapid-antigen-tests-free/ <<Politics will not save Australia.>> With the above to go by, yes I agree. This long standing tradition must be overthrown, be put to an end or undergo major reform. Posted by NathanJ, Wednesday, 29 December 2021 9:41:28 PM

Nathan,
Labor would indeed "take the same attitude"; that's why I don't really care who wins the next election. While I do care what happens to Australia, whoever is on the government benches won't change what has already happened, is happening now, and what will happen in the future. We simply do not have people of integrity, intelligence and ability in our political class. The same goes for most voters, who are very clearly getting the politicians they deserve. We seem to be heading into a new Dark Age. Posted by ttbn, Thursday, 30 December 2021 8:00:07 AM

Strange how people see things differently.
Some look at the stars and reach for the heavens while others prefer to keep their eyes downcast and not see much that's uplifting at all. What we need are leaders who do reach for the heavens. Who have the vision to see how things can be improved. And who have the gumption to take action. With the new year just around the corner - we can have hope, and possibly new opportunities that things will get better for us all. We've always managed to muddle through. I have every confidence that we shall continue to do so. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 30 December 2021 9:12:36 AM

Another instance that perhaps shows that it doesn't matter much what mob of shysters forms a government in Australia.
Bureaucrats in the ADF have determined that there is no national security risk that would justify stripping a Chinese company of the 99 year lease of the Port of Darwin (remember, that’s the one that horrified lefty US President Obama, and even Malcolm Turnbull, PM at the time). Apolitical, and very smart, Michael Shoebridge, director of Australian Strategic Policy, says that the lease very obviously would not go through today, given the threat from Communist China. But, there it is, and looks like remaining, along with the continuing, worsening threat. The Federal Labor member for Solomon (Darwin's electorate) has slammed the deal (don't know what said at the time of signing) saying, "the Coalition were asleep at the wheel when it waved through the lease". Actually, Malcolm Turnbull had no power to stop it, thanks to our cranky Federation. What a bunch of dills we are when it comes to politics and the well-being of our nation. Dills beget dills. True, they are not waking up, and probably will not until it is too late. I sometimes listen to talk back radio, and there was one character a couple of nights ago who came on, all on fire about how Australians should stop criticising the 'gumnent' and realise now much better off we are we in Australia than other countries. You know, the usual guff. When asked about countries once free but not anymore, and how we have to be vigilant to preserve our democracy, this peanut confidently assured the presenter that Australia could never lose democracy, and hung up. With too many idiots like that, I wouldn't put money on Australia still being a democracy by the end of this century. Posted by ttbn, Thursday, 30 December 2021 11:19:05 AM

ttbn, Well, looking at the present majority I really don't actually want a Democracy but hopefully the sane will outbreed the present lot before then. The trouble with politicians, individual, is that they are a 'class': all connected. Very few of them come from outside - that is, had a job in the private sector, with all the experiences real life entails. The few who have had 'proper' jobs are usually lawyers. The political class is as close to being incestuous as you can be without the actual sex, although that's not always absent. I reckon the same sort will be involved in the loss of democracy at the end of the century.

Before people get too excited about the last election, the overall result was really a "Bradbury" win for the coalition.
On first preferences, although there was -1.39% swing against the ALP, the Libs also had a 0.68% swing against them too and the Nats lost 0.10%. The only way the coalition won was from preferences from Palmers UAP plus One Nation and in the end had won only one more seat than the previous election and the overall 2 party preferred result was only a 1.17% swing - hardly a landslide. By the way, how are those promised 10,000 Adani jobs going? Since then the Nats have seen they're in trouble and have become denim-clad coal-fondlers and trying to win coal-based seats, despite their history of trying to set up cheap accommodation for FIFO workers to displace local coal miners. Also poll-wise, according to an ex-Newspoll executive that ‘preferred PM’ question is included in the survey to ‘get a headline’. He said it was a nonsense question. Meanwhile after numerous scandals (financial and personal), ongoing negligence, gross financial mismanagement, incompetence and corruption they expect to be rewarded with "another go". It’s worth remembering that Morrison can only continue as PM because he relies on the parliamentary votes of 1 alleged rapist, 2 pro-virus conspiracy theorists and 1 up-skirter that should have been in an ankle bracelet long ago. Now their economically responsible myth is in tatters and refugees and terrorists have faded from the headlines, their strategy is now lining up to be the "tough on China" candidate. SM, read my post on page 2, in my mind Labor is only the lesser of two evils. The D and A of Federal Labor only differs from the Coalition by a few degrees. With covid and the economy I doubt Labor would have done anything markedly different from the Coalition.

Oh how easy it is to be wise and critical in retrospect. Compared to the rest of the world, I think Australia's leadership has done remarkably well. It has to be remembered that the pandemic has not been experienced by anyone before and it is extremely difficult to manage a constantly changing scenario with hastily developed vaccines that had to be tested under extremely trying conditions with a social network either condemning so much of the science and technology or running scare tactics with little knowledge of what they were talking about... notwithstanding the very few who had qualifications that suggested that they did. It's a war which hopefully we are getting on top of and generally speaking I think we should give support to all those on the front line and who have to make ultimate life and death decisions in the face of all the criticism leveled at them. That mainly includes the politicians that have to act on the advice given to them by the medical profession. They are all doing their utmost to make the right decisions in very difficult and constantly changing circumstances. Name a country that has done better. This forum contains too many people that only want to throw stones.

Indeed Snake, no one really knows what is the best way to beat this plague.
Even the medical experts are making educated guesses. After it is all over all the real experts world wide should establish a commission and examine all the data and decisions and outbreak numbers. Saw this on the Net just now & it reminded me of the Politics & policies of Labor.
I don't know who wrote this so I hope it's ok to use this very sane assessment. 1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. 2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. 3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. 4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! 5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation. The purpose of tax was to pay for retired Pensions,If you have worked and paid tax you are entitled to support in senior years.
http://www.upinsmokesignal.com/history-of-the-aged-pension-in-australia.php "The Australian Pension scheme was set up in 1946 by the Chifley/Curtin Governments in a bipartisan agreement with the Menzies opposition. An income tax levy of 7.5%, called a social services contribution, was introduced to be used exclusively to finance social security cash payments. This contribution was paid into what was called a National Welfare Fund, from which payments were to be made. The fund was to be supplemented by subventions from payroll tax and general revenue. Mr. Menzies stated that the Compulsory Contribution levy should be kept separate so that “the stigma of charity should be removed from the Age Pension. It should be an entitlement earned by the person’s personal contribution to the fund.” However in 1950 when the balance in the fund was almost 100 million pounds the levy was grouped with Tax Paid, but was still collected". IT IS PAID FOR BY OUR OWN TAX CONTRIBUTION. Posted by Josephus, Saturday, 1 January 2022 7:50:53 PM

The truth is the socialists side of politics has had visions of some scheme or another which would provide for workers in their retirement. The conservatives believe that provision is a personal responsibility, and where one through their own failings can't provide then private charity is best. 'Pig Iron' Bob had no philosophical commitment to pensions, and he simply reduced it to a bread line payment for the poor.

I'm not surprised that Pell got off on a legal technicality (he was not exonerated). He had the best lawyers money could buy, the support of some very powerful people, including the Church, and much was withheld during his trial. The High Court appeal did not ask whether Pell committed the offences. It asked whether the two majority judges in the Victorian Court of Appeal, in dismissing Pell's earlier appeal made an error about the nature of the correct legal principles, or their application. Hasbeen etc, the HST would be a good thing if it could be made to pay.
One item on the original scheme was a high level bridge over the Hawkesbury River and or Broken Bay. It would have the same span and height as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. NB, it cannot use any of the permway of the existing track, it has to be completely new. The other question that will raise some ire is if it does not terminate at Central will it terminate outside Parramatta or similar. One suggestion was the Western Sydney Airport as its terminal which would be ideal if it was extended to Melbourne. I wonder if they really have thought it all out to that extent ? I suspect it was sliced out in the point near the end as the end on the link is how I remember it. I think it could have been live when I saw it, I am often up late. What I think was snipped out was where he says "go peaceably" and "go home". I am very clear about peacefully as well as go home. I have never heard the recording since with those words. I have been watching for them ever since. If it was snipped very quickly after they were said, they could easily disappear. Posted by Bazz, Monday, 3 January 2022 11:03:52 AM

Albanese is making a big deal of the 'fast train'. OK for those living in Melbourne, Sydney of Brisbane. Not a vote winner for people in Adelaide, Darwin, Perth, Hobart or the regions West of the Great Dividing Range.
Which reminds me of the bozos employed by the Health Commission. A woman rang the Commission and found herself speaking to one of its minions based in Brisbane. When asked where she was calling from and replied, Adelaide, the bozo, complete with Australian accent, asked her if Adelaide was in Australia. Posted by ttbn, Monday, 3 January 2022 12:31:19 PM

There's funny stories we can all relate.
Remember the book - "They're a weird mob," by Nino Culotta? I remember while living and working in the US being asked if we had any tall buildings in Australia? They were convinced that kangaroos jumped up and down our main streets. I told them I had a problem wearing shoes because I was far more comfortable and used to going with bare-feet. Everything was bigger and better in the US. I recall a Canadian friend telling me the story of her taking an American colleague to a Dinosaur Theme Park whilst her friend was visiting Canada. The American friend no matter where she was taken always stated - ours are bigger and better in the US. My Canadian friend thought she'd shut the American up with the Dinosaur Park but oh no. The American ended up saying that they had parks like that in the US. The Canadian thought well - fair enough. Until the Amwerican ended up by telling her that their dinosaurs were alive. The Canadian had to admit she'd been beaten and could not argue with that. Posted by Foxy, Monday, 3 January 2022 12:58:18 PM

ttbn, unlike the Coalition, Labor has a plan for Australia. With the Morrison government its all about vote winning through pork barreling. If you're in a marginal Coalition seat they'll give you a swimming pool and car park, whether you need it or not.

I note while Albo was in Newcastle, he was promising fast trains to Sydney and ships built in Newcastle. Does Albo realise Newcastle gains its wealth from Coal exported to China, which he will close by 2030. Newcastle Steel is already closed, and we import from China. All the coal fired power in the Hunter will close under Albo so where will the ship building steel come from?
Fast rail to Sydney from Newcastle, unless it stops at comuter stations where people live very few people will get on at Newcastle to enter Sydney. Newcastle has an airport whose planes fly to all major cities in Australia. He is talking big, but it is not dealing with public needs. Posted by Josephus, Tuesday, 4 January 2022 7:33:56 AM

Govt should focus on putting the brakes on the education dumbing down bandwagon.
Flooding Lake Eyre would bring a far greater economic, social & ecological benefit than high speed rail. A non- military national Service would be the biggest win for this Nation ! Freezing & even lowering senior bureaucrat salaries would also bring about economic benfits. First things first start with re-introducing measures to curb the insane drug & alcohol dependence of so many Australians ! Posted by individual, Tuesday, 4 January 2022 8:12:48 AM

individual,
Isn't alcohol dependence n Australia now lower than any time since WW2? Shouldn't senior bureaucrat salaries be performance related rather than blindly frozen? Why would it be a win if Australians temporarily lost their freedom? Lake Eyre has naturally flooded before, so what analysis have you done or read regarding the benefits that brings? And how would you flood it artificially without turning it hypersaline? Posted by Aidan, Tuesday, 4 January 2022 9:26:40 AM

Indy, has several pet hates, PS, the educated, aboriginals, people on welfare, other than those of his ilk, etc. He believes by extinguishing or penalizing his pet hates and replacing them with hair-brained schemes all will be miraculously fixed to his liking. The guy wants national service for others, but won't support pensioners in the workforce, something decent pensioners are now supporting, but not Indy as he continues to suck on the taxpayer teat of plenty.

Non-military national service could be started with working for the dole. Some retirees want to work because they spend too much. The number of public servants is ridiculous. 70% of Australians are dependent on alcohol. And our education system has become a political brainwashing exercise with 'Chinese characteristics', as Xi Jinping is constantly saying.

Pell was actually exonerated. Just look up the definition. The technicality was that there was no corroborating evidence against him. The unanimous judgement of the 7 greatest legal minds in the country pointed out this simple fact and disgraced the 3 Victorian judges. Pauliar, Labor is running a low profile campaign so their policies mostly a mystery. The two moronic policies so far are a high speed rail to Brisbane and ten tankers that are sit in port. As for pork-barrelling in 2013 Labor was pork-barrelling as much or more than the coalition ever did. Posted by shadowminister, Tuesday, 4 January 2022 10:43:39 AM

Hi Foxy,
Didn't have a lot to do with Albo in the early days of the politics of inner Sydney although he was in the neighbouring seat of Greyndler. Seen as a member of Labor's right, Albo didn't like the Greens, we were interlopers stealing traditional Labor votes. At the last election he failed to gain 50% of the primary vote, and had to rely on Liberal preferences to easily defeat the Green candidate, who finished second. The discussion is not boring; it's the silly, childish and pointless back and forth between certain narcissistic posters that is boring. One says black, the other says white, and neither is capable of stopping. They are both full of the brown stuff. Do you believe in astrology? <<it's the silly, childish and pointless back and forth between certain narcissistic posters that is boring. One says black, the other says white, and neither is capable of stopping.>> I don't like that either. To me that's boring and it's been going on for years. I don't know what to do to stop it. I only wish new people would post some discussion topics. Previous people here, like Tony/Toni Lavis and A.J Phillips would bluntly refuse to post topics, and simply take the black/white approach. They'd treat this page as if we are all part of some sort of high school debating contest. As for Astrology, not 100%, but I had to find something to revitalise the debate here and get people discussing politics and the next election - not the guff they'd been going on about for quite some time, which was pretty much all about nothing. Another set of poll results have come out recently and overall things aren't looking 100% for Scott Morrison or the Liberal Party.
The Morrison Government has had its worst poll results since the black sunday bushfires. No, it's not 100% for Labor in some people's eyes, but if the Prime Minister doesn't get his act together, I don't see him lasting and I can easily see other minor parties taking over in the Senate and a lot of indepdendent candidates getting re-elected or voted into office. http://www.news.com.au/finance/work/leaders/anthony-albanese-to-tap-into-voter-frustration-as-he-looks-towards-the-federal-election/news-story/f4c135952e9770e38d20b5c50387f852 The Prime Ministers handling of COVID-19 matters have done him no credit and the lack of leadership has been appalling. NathanJ, at the present moment I can see no better result for the Australian population than the Senate to be controlled by a couple of the new parties emerging on the right.

The Liberal Party should have in its DNA that it is the party of small government, of individual opportunity, of personal responsibility. Yet everywhere Australians have been subjected to government overreach at the expense of individual liberty during Covid. Small businesses should never have been shut while corporates were allowed to remain open and prosper at the expense of individual and family-owned enterprises.
The National Cabinet has been a dispiriting example of the worst kind of federalism. The the politics of fear has shamelessly been exploited. The National Cabinet has been something for Morrison to hide behind - along with the 'experts'. Fearmongering, authoritarianism is the name of the game. David Flint wonders if Morrison wants to lose the election, "surrendering to" net zero emissions as he has done, very possibly causing Liberal supporters to place their first preferences "with newer parties supporting older values".
He goes on to mention: Higher cost of living Crowded capital cities Housing unaffordability Mass immigration Stagnant wages And, we could see desertion of both major parties, who have "swept aside the principal safeguards in the constitutional system bequeathed to us by the British and which Australians have enjoyed for over one and a half centuries". According to The Australian Financial Review - the
federal election of 2022 is not decided at all. There's pluses and minuses on both sides of politics. We know that the Prime Minister is a better campaigner than the leader of the Opposition. And he can point to the fact that after two years of COVID most people have got jabbed and the high vaccination rates mean that most people are now safe from serious illness. As restrictions have eased we're seeing an economic rebound and "the fastest monthly job growth in Australian history." But of course there are many twists to be solved. Employment is currently high because migration is low but the government is going to have to bring in some skilled migrants in or put growth at risk. Global bank interest rates are set to rise. There's more at the following: http://afr.com/politics/federal/an-election-beckons-with-all-still-to-play-for-20211227-p59kac So many unknowns still ahead. Will both leaders be able to unite their parties and have them stand behind them? We'll have to wait and see. Posted by Foxy, Friday, 7 January 2022 10:50:55 AM

I have followed a lot of Einstein's work both in quantum mechanics and relativity and in both cases, logic and reason were very much present. His 1907 paper on the quantisation of light took the work from Planck and formulated the basis for field theory the treatment of light as both a particle and a wave and essentially kicked off quantum mechanics as it is today. Special relativity 1905 was the next step from Maxwell's equations on electromagnetism etc. Rational thought was there in spades. Talk to the finger. This Wally thinks he is EINSTEIN, his last post is a straight cut and past job from the internet. More like he's Coco The Clown's performing monkey. Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 18 January 2022 2:16:07 PM

Hi Paul,
I feel that he wants to challenge people with his unique point of view. Posted by Foxy, Tuesday, 18 January 2022 2:25:30 PM

Hi Foxy,
If only EINSTEIN had access to the internet and Google, he would be almost as smart as shonkyminister. Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 18 January 2022 3:50:57 PM

Hi Paul,
There's plenty on the web - but it doesn't beat a good read. And that's what worries me about our kids. I still continue to push age appropriate and interesting stories for my grandkids to read. Posted by Foxy, Tuesday, 18 January 2022 4:57:48 PM

"PM Morrison trails Albanese in trust and likeability according to new poll."

I don't think people can make comparisons to the last election, as Scott Morrison was a newer guy on the block and there was no COVID-19. Posted by NathanJ, Tuesday, 18 January 2022 7:12:19 PM

We need to remember the last election where
the polls indicated that Labor would win. That it was an election they could not lose. Yet, as Scott Morrison said - "He believes in miracles." And a "miracle" was delivered. Perhaps it can happen again? Posted by Foxy, Tuesday, 18 January 2022 8:17:14 PM

I’m betting that Morrison will win.

Pauliar,
Once again you are lying through your teeth. I wrote the last post and I challenge you to show where I copied it from. You are a brain dead moron. Posted by shadowminister, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 2:25:38 AM

Is Mise,
I agree with you about Morrison. To date I have not seen any other alternative that's strong enough to capture the public's imagination. But there's still time, I guess. Posted by Foxy, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 8:55:38 AM

Issy, will you be getting odds of 1000/1 the winner the day after the election like last time. Then tell us all about it on Monday morning. PORKY!
You are yet to explain your "big win" from the last election. Posted by Paul1405, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 6:37:18 PM

Paul,
Where emotions are involved fools will bet. I bet ‘odds on’ in my favour and bet both sides to win, it’s only a matter of balancing the bets to ensure a win; bookmakers do it as a matter of course. Posted by Is Mise, Thursday, 20 January 2022 11:21:28 AM

Issy, you never did explain how much you need to outlay in a 2 horse race to win enough to buy a car. Say you were able to obtain odds of $2.10 each of two in a two horse race then to win $1,000 you need to outlay $20,000, that is $10,000 on each runner, no matter which one wins wins. Now a bookmaker, his book is always over 100% as any smart punter knows. The fact is to win big by laying both runners in a two horse race, not only do you have to anticipate the movement of the odds, you have to outlay a lot of money. My question is; How does an old pensioner win a car by backing both side in an election?. EVIDENCE PLEASE.

Hi Issy,
ln my student days I spent some little time as a "Penciler" for a bookmaker at the "red hots", that is the Harold Park trots on a Friday night, I know how punting works. My simple question to you is what odds did you get each, for Labor and the Coalition at the last election? A very simple question, yet you refuse to answer. 10/1 5/1 evens odds on? You always are asking my forum friend Foxy and myself for EVIDENCE so I'm now asking you for EVIDENCE. Why not be a dog with a bone. Posted by Paul1405, Thursday, 20 January 2022 10:04:48 PM

Paul
I offer $1,000 against a like or greater amount, then accept the bet when I have an equal counter bet, fools, to boost their ego or to shew how certain that their man will be elected will bet 2, 3 or more thous to my one. Can’t not win. Never bet on horse races the only ones involved who are honest are the horses, likewise the trots. The.dogs were another thing, especially when there were 10 races and only 8 boxes, one or two boxes were going to win twice or one box could win three times. So one backed the box that won the first race in the second and so on, sometimes a lot of money had to be laid out for a win so if it didn’t pan out by the sixth race we’d give itt up for that night but usually it paid off by the sixth. Then the golden rule was ‘stop betting and go home’. Posted by Is Mise, Thursday, 20 January 2022 11:04:52 PM

Hi Issy,
Liked working the trots, colorful character's. The old bookie I worked for, they said he was an alky, kept a flask in his back pocket, but he knew what he was doing. Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 21 January 2022 5:44:01 AM

Pauliar,
For someone that never presents EVIDENCE, you are very vocal in asking others. The question is how much did you lose after your gloating last time? Posted by shadowminister, Friday, 21 January 2022 5:45:33 AM

Don't know what you are on about shonky. I haven't bought as much as a lottery ticket in 20 years, leave the lotto to the wife. I didn't have a great interest in the result of the last election.
If I was a bookie I'd bet; The Coalition $1.90 Labor $2.00 Any other party or group $101.00 No result $16.00 (none can form gov) Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 21 January 2022 6:15:36 AM

I watched Anthony Albanese being interviewed on
"The Insiders," on Sunday morning. He certainly has a new image. New haircut. Smart looking suit. He seems to have lost weight - and he's even quite articulate. Impressive all round. Whoever is advising him is doing a bang-up job! He's actually looking like quite a handsome man, and leadership material. Very presentable. Also - he answered all the questions very well - he did not waffle on. My husband tells me that the Labor is also currently leading in the polls. It's going to be an interesting time in the months ahead. I think we'll all benefit from it - as the race begins. Posted by Foxy, Monday, 31 January 2022 9:09:04 AM

Even though you can't trust polls, Labor must be more than happy with the latest Newpoll, having them leading the Coalition 56/44 two party preferred.
Not surprising given ScumO and his mob have stuffed everything from Covid, hundreds dying, to the economy, a trillion dollar debt and nothing to show for it. Australians can't forget it was Morrison and that jerk in NSW who were demanding Australia open up when through their negligence hundreds more Australians have died from Scotty virus. I'll repeat what I wrote on another discussion -
regarding Scott Morrison? It's too early to tell. He's an unfinished story. The COVD-19 pandemic has ensured his incumbency will be a significant one, either for good or bad. I was reading recently a list of the top-ranking Australian Prime Ministers according to experts. My list is only a small one in comparison. Sir Robert Menzies. Bob Hawke. Julia Gillard. Malcolm Turnbull. Posted by Foxy, Friday, 4 February 2022 12:33:24 PM

Hi Foxy,
Obviously those EXPERTS are not familiar with: ALFRED DEAKIN BILLY HUGHES JOHN CURTAIN FRED ZIFFEL Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 4 February 2022 1:52:12 PM

Hi Foxy,
I gave my list - the ones I'm familiar with. I also like the following politicians: Kristina Kenneally. Penny Wong. Kerry Chikarovski. Kelly O"Dwyer. Anna Burke. Kerryn Phelps. Julie Bishop. Dave Sharma. Quentin Bryce. To name just a few. Posted by Foxy, Friday, 4 February 2022 2:32:28 PM

Oooops. Sorry I meant to say - Hi Paul.

Hi Foxy,
I thought that was a list from experts, not that you are not an expert, just as expert as anyone. It's all subjective. I've read about every Australian Prime Minister, and many US Presidents, also British PM's. For a small country, population wise, our leaders can hold their own with the greats of those bigger countries. For example Winston Churchill was a great war time leader, and Britain was in the thick of it. John Curtin in his own way was just as great, but in a much smaller country. What Churchill did for Britain in his way, Curtin did for Australia. Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 4 February 2022 4:19:53 PM

Hi Paul,
I admit I don't know that much about our past PMs. I'm still learning. A work in progress. I'll have to do more reading about Curtin. He sounds interesting. Posted by Foxy, Saturday, 5 February 2022 9:28:35 AM

Hi Foxy,
I've had a life time of reading about Australian political history. Particularity pre WWII, fascinating times, fascinating characters, put todays lot to shame. Without my socialists hat on, and not really counting the modern PM's, and being as fair as possible. Best PM John Curtin, runner up Bob Menzies. Honourable mention for Joseph Lyons. Worse PM Billy McMahon runner up Stanley Bruce. That's discounting Page, Fadden and Ford who only served days in office. The WWI and earlier PM's Barton, Deakin, Watson, Reid, Fisher, Cook and Hughes. These were mostly excellent in office in setting Australia on the right parth to nationhood. In my mind Barton, Deakin and to a lesser degree Cook were standouts. They all make for a great read. Now that's a mixed bag from all over the political spectrum. Hi Paul,
You've certainly opened up a few doors and aroused my curiousity regarding Australian history so Thank You. I've forgotten so much of what I thought I knew previously. Now I'm going back and discovering so much more. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 6 February 2022 9:22:00 AM

I do not think there is much sense in praising/criticising politicians
and even epidemic medical experts on COVID matters because I believe virtually no one has a clue on the best way to handle it. After the event a statistical examination with all the data available and properly dated may point out what worked and what did not. If Albo wins it will be interesting to see how Labour managers the decrease in CO2 emissions. Not all sources will be able to be reduced by 43/8 = 5.4% per year to 2030. For instance diesel for trucks will be hard to reduce by that much every year so other parts of the economy will have to make larger reductions every year. Will the Defense Forces have to reduce their consumption by more than 5.4% per year ? Will rail services, freight & passenger have to reduce by more than 5.4% per year ? Public Transport will have to be expanded into other areas with electric busses. The provision of these services will increase emissions significantly. Certainly it seems that private car use will have to be drastically reduced by taxes or petrol rationing. Frankly, I just cannot see a way around it. Dear Bazz,
Exciting times ahead by the sound of it. We certainly have the intelligence and the tools and the natural resources to provide for a good and sustainable life. Australia is one of the standout countries in terms of development status. We have leading climatologists, scientists, our pre-eminent public research organisation - CSIRO is a leader in innovations. It is not corrupt. It's science is world class. All this matters. New ideas should be welcome for the opportunities they open up for the improvement of the human lot. Of course new ideas are seen as threats by those who have become comfortable in their ideologies. But realistically that will have to change in the next decades if the country is to survive and prosper. Posted by Foxy, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 1:58:48 PM

Yes, it is out there: http://7news.com.au/politics/federal-politics/newspoll-analysis-signals-strong-labor-win-c-5103129
Yes it's bad news for Scott Morrison, with polling predicting a heavy defeat at the upcoming federal election next year.
The people have spoken. Goodbye Scott Morrison and say hello to Anthony Albanese for PM.
No people haven't voted yet, I understand that, but the polls usually come out right.
To be fair, what could the current Prime Minister do to reverse the situation and turn the polls around in his favour?
