Now lets see if I was God and I am glad I am not God I would be more displeased with the massive murder of innocent kids hidden by skin than I would be humans using a bit of natural resource to keep warm or cool. Then again those who worship 'mother' earth see it as a bigger sin to fly around the country (at least anyone but themselves).
So no its not good theology to link one event with another but if you had to choose one, like Noah's flood the choice would be easy. And lets not forget our modern parenting techniques where kids are lighting fires regularly and then probably told not to worry because its gw causing the fires. Is Mise,
<<Suggest a name change to UranusSpen 'cause you ain't on the same planet as the rest of us ( well, most of us).>> There you go with an example of putting me down by attempting to redirect the conversation to another issue with which you are more comfortable in responding - not on the same planet. You have avoided the issue I raised. This deliberate turning aside from what I said meant you abandoned the argument I raised. That's called a Red Herring Fallacy. When will you quit using fallacious reasoning? http://www.logicallyfallacious.com/tools/lp/Bo/LogicalFallacies/150/Red_Herring I know what you're doing. I didn't come down in the last shower of logic, reason or theology. You could have developed some meaningful conversation from my post with questions or comments like these: 1. How do you get on discussing the link between God, sin and consequences with people who don't believe in God? 2. The example you gave from Amos was for Israel. How can you honestly apply it to Australia? 3. How do you KNOW there is a link between the sins of a nation and the calamities which strike it? 4. Why is same-sex marriage such a hot topic with the media and on OLO? 5. As for abortion and the killing of unborn children, why oh why do Australians put up with this slaughter? 6. What does science say about when a new human life begins? Do you know what knowledge based on what 'most of us think' is called? See: Hasty Generalization, http://www.logicallyfallacious.com/tools/lp/Bo/LogicalFallacies/100/Hasty_Generalization Are those types of questions out of your league Is Mise? Here's a report!
'Distressing' claims have emerged that the coppers have been booking car drivers fleeing the NSW fires over unsecured loads. Members of the public have alleged in NSW North Coast Facebook groups that evacuees were being pulled over by the coppers when 'these people are fleeing with the only things they have left'. Reports have emerged that people have been stopped by the NSW coppers for 'unstable loads', and then being drug and alcohol tested as well. Good one coppers! <<Israel the football star has linked the bushfires to same-sex marriage.>>
I wouldn't link the specifics of same-sex marriage and abortion (as Folau did) to the bushfire disasters Australia is currently experiencing.
However, this we do know:
1. 'Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people' (Proverbs 14:34). Consequences follow a nation's righteous or ungodly actions. Is the murdering of 80,000 unborn children every year a 'disgrace to the people of Australia'?
2. The nation of Israel was warned through the prophet Amos (4:6-9, 12):
6 “I [the Sovereign Lord] brought hunger to every city
and famine to every town.
But still you would not return to me,”
says the LORD.
7 “I kept the rain from falling
when your crops needed it the most.
I sent rain on one town
but withheld it from another.
Rain fell on one field,
while another field withered away.
8 People staggered from town to town looking for water,
but there was never enough.
But still you would not return to me,”
says the Lord.
9 “I struck your farms and vineyards with blight and mildew.
Locusts devoured all your fig and olive trees.
But still you would not return to me,”
says the Lord….
12 “Therefore, I will bring upon you all the disasters I have announced.
Prepare to meet your God in judgment, you people of Israel!”
There is a link between the sins of the nation and the calamities experienced. Only the Sovereign Lord knows the consequences that will come because of our sinful deeds against God.
