Yuyutsu,
I don't argue that having to send young people to war is something anyone would propose lightly. Even less lightly do I take to the mentality that people should be entitled to everything others have fought for & now get villefied for it except on ANZAC Day.
Those who oppose opposing an aggressor are actually worse than the aggressor & there is no chance whatsoever for a country to become neutral when it has citizens with that mentality.
For a country to be neutral require s a differnt mentality to what is found here presently. Had this been proposed before the Goaf had a chance to ruin so much of our future there would have been a chance but not now.

The proposal is an attempt to avoid fighting the last war.
What needs to be taken into account is that the nature of war has changed.
The only enemy in sight is not a nation but a non national political
movement with armed insurgents and car bombs.
I don't think that F35s will be of much use in that war.

Becoming independent would be the quickest way possible to become subjected.

We wouldn't last a year, without big brother, with that big nuclear stick standing behind us. We have too much wealth in the ground, & too little a defense force.

Greenies don't like the idea of nuclear, but it is the only thing that has prevented a major war, for the last 60 years, & kept us free.

Read the short story on the Internet called the "Gospel According to Patrick"
The first of the 21st century gospels.

Then if you want to discuss the industry called religion I am up to it.
And I will start a new discussion about religion.

Dear individual.
Interesting comments now starting to emerge on this issue.
One of the things that I find very interesting in the 21st century is how many individuals are spending their time successfully learning new things.

That individuality changes totally when the human race gets together and gains the strength in numbers ,

War and killing is the one thing that we have learnt to do very successfully and continue to do so.

In almost all cases we go to war in the name of God and a for freedom that does not exist.

Australia has the ability to broker peace but it appears will it never be utilised because of the failure of leadership that cannot see past 3-4 years.

The political strategy of our time is to create movement of people this in turn creates prosperity. It always has and always will.

Bob Hawk recognised this and appropriated it.
It has brought economic activity and lawlessness and left him thinking he is a hero.

Our ability to be a deterrent to war is loud and clear but we do not own our country or our politics, despite what you all want to think.

The United States Military machine influences all parts of our perceived inability to secure ourselves this is a fact of life and I have had personal experience with this issue.

Yes I agree Australia is no where near mature enough to manage a neutral country but we need to have this debate and it needs to be at least on the fore front of everyone's mind, before it is too late and the killing begins.
