Funny thing about bears. We never had a problem
with them while hiking. Hiking is not a problem
as long as you stay on the designated routes,
and watch out for them, and behave sensibly.
Rangers warn people to keep
their distance from the bears and don't feed them.
Some bears are used to humans, but of course you
don't know which ones - so you don't approach any
of them. In Yosemite bears often come into the
camping grounds looking for food. Disposing of rubbish
and keeping things tidy is also important.
We did come across a mother bear with cubs in Yosemite
once - but she was about fifty metres away and we did
not approach her. My husband took some photos of the
mother bear and two cubs, sitting in a posed position,
with the mother in the middle, and the cubs on either
side, and we went on our way.
Staying away from bears is the best
thing to do - bears weigh more than double the weight
of humans (500 lbs) and even if friendly they can
injure people.

Belly, I did a bit of swimming and cricket in my younger days. I can honestly claim to have faced that great West Indian fast bowler Wes Hall at school. During a WI tour down under Mr Hall and other WI cricketers paid a promotional visit to school, in a suit and tie from the spot Wes rolled the arm over (bowled) 2 at each boy in the nets, I hit one and missed one, p/s not exactly at his usual 100mph, more like 10.
I like to see the mighty Rabbitohs score a win. My sport today is played through my partners grandchildren, one goes well at RL, they won the grand final this year, and the other likes Netball like her mother and grandmother, my partner who in her day was a leading player in NZ.
Sport can play a very important roll in a child's development, but I hate to see it when some parents turn it into a gladiatorial contest for 6 year old's.

Hi. Yes, there are fish. We tend to go to the nice locations for diving and as you know from your driving, it is the joy of living expressed through the activity that is tops.

The good thing about spearfishing is that we see and can take only what we eat. However amateur and recreational fisherman are almost invariably that way, with the odd highly publicised exception being used by people who favour State control of everything to justify the millions wasted by the feckless Greens et al on bans, zones and an over-abundance of bureaucrats making 'policy' and monitoring. As you infer, recreational fishermen are limited by all sorts of factors and put more into fishing than they could ever take out.

One can't have regrets, but I would have liked to cast off in my twenties to sail. However I had to study and work. Independence was my genetic inheritance and disposition, much as you might say.

I don't know how any of you survived those muscle cars on those tracks. Few members of the public outside of those passionately interested in motor sports (and there are many of them) realise the challenges and risks of the tracks (and the cars!).
