My sport now, or recreation rather, is rifle shooting - target that is.
It is a sport which can be pursued at almost any age, from 8 to 108, and though challenging is not physically demanding.
Perfect for the leisurely sports-minded person.

However, my passion was scuba diving. Now, alas, one of memories, and of fanciful thoughts of re-visiting - health and conditions permitting, as I would have to do the required course again, and pass it.
Have some neat underwater colour slides from Herron Island and from Lilli Pilli (Port Hacking, Sydney), and memories of a 100ft dive on the reef at the mouth of Port Moresby harbour (PNG), surrounded by tiny irridescent blue fish, and noting a few white-tipped reef sharks - those magnificently streamlined and graceful torpedos - and of wrecks of Catalinas in the harbour itself, and collecting some stoneware beer bottles from near where the old wharf use to be.
Ah, memories.

Most disturbing dive? Off North Mole at Freemantle, WA - supposedly in search of a delectable saltwater crayfish - where visibility was virtually nil and I'm sure I was passed by a large dark shark-like shape as I kept my back pressed against the rock wall, peering into the gloom. I didn't hang about.

Did surf lifesaving and archery (recurve, not compound) in earlier days - and witnessed Simon Fairweather winning the individual archery gold for Oz at the 2000 olympics - and I gained Instructor qualification in both of these 'sports'.

Can't ride a horse (though I tried a few times), can't sail, lousy at rugby, cricket and soccer, and poor at golf and tennis.
So, anyone for rifle shooting? (The non-sportsman's, or woman's, sport.)
Exercise? Farming and volunteer fire-fighting.

In my wild erratic fancy, visions come to me of .... earlier days, when I wasn't yet a crotchety, past-middle-aged, bachelor-with-good-friend.
Ah, sweet mystery of life, what hopes, what dreams.
(I could once do 100 metres underwater - with fins - on a single breath. Lost youth - and 'experience' is a poor substitute.)

Just got in from 14 days of Ice Climbing in Antarctica, a warm up for the winter season.
