csteel: US government had nothing to do with the production or distribution of the movie trailer... Yet couldn't the former Afghanistan government have made a similar argument about a bunch of Saudi's hijacking some aeroplanes?
Hijacking a plane is a crime anywhere, free speech is only a crime in dictatorships or Theocracies. csteel: the look on Bert's face when he realised his 'offence' was priceless yet no one questioned Ali's right to be offended. What Bert said wasn't meant as "offence" & Ali realized that was just an Australian saying at the same time Bert realized that "in America" it was offensive. I saw it happen & you're grasping at straws. csteel: Australians have had a long and proud history of protesting. & look at who by. Unemployable Greenie ratbags & Uni students that are told that they won't pass their course if they don't turn up at the protest, not ordinary hardworking Australians. csteel I have politely asked your opinion on a couple of links but you keep avoiding the question. Do you agree with the Imam? & would you like to see Australia to become a Caliphate? Here are two links again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maHSOB2RFm4 http://www.hizb-australia.org/events/item/372-khilafah-conference-2012 It's not hard to watch them, just click on the links. Please do the right thing & tell us what your thoughts are on them. I'm sure all the posters here would like to know them. If you refuse to watch them, what are you afraid of? csteele accuses me of "fear mongering"
If warning about possible future dangers is "fear mongering" I plead guilty. In particular I pointed out that Australia's most important neighbour, with ten times its population and a rapidly growing economy, is a Muslim country. If current trends continue it will be Indonesia, not Australia, that calls the shots in this region. Now I don't know to what extent Australians have taken this on board. I think many Australians still think of themselves as an outpost of a kind of Anglo-Saxon empire. They cannot conceive of Australia as a small country in Asia without powerful friends. But that seems to me to be the most likely position of Australia within the lifetime of many posters on OLO. A small country in Asia without powerful friends. So I ask Australians to consider realistically what it may be like when the air force of a Muslim country rules the skies in this region and the navy of a Muslim country sits astride Australia's trade routes. It may be nothing. It may be a non-event. Or a kind of Javanese / Indonesian nationalism tied up with Islam may arise. In that case things could get unpleasant. To repeat, if thinking we should be discussing these scenarios is fear mongering I plead guilty. But is there any one here who thinks we should be ignoring these issues? csteele, you got it wrong on Afghanistan.
What Alquada was doing there was not freedom of speach. It was in partnership on a worldwide terrorist training program. The Afghans stuck their neck out and got it chopped. Stevenmeyer said; They cannot conceive of Australia as a small country in Asia without powerful friends. Well actually he got that wrong, Australia is not in Asia. Europe is much closer to Asia than Australia. In fact it is not generally realised that Indonesia and the Philippines are not in Asia either. These misunderstandings can be put down to Mercators projection of the world. Did you even realise that a degree of north latitude is 30% larger than a degree of south latitude on school wall maps ? Beijing is closer to Vienna than it is to Darwin. These distortions are affecting our world view. Australia is on the other side of the world to Asia ! *This, according to Yabby, is 'Kumbaya culture', 'paper thin' with the 'laws of the jungle' just ready to pounce.*
Ah, how romantic and very sweet, Csteele. Now turn the power off in any big city for a couple of days and watch the looting and pillaging start. In Pakistan they are killing each other in the street and burning down buildings, because some guy, thousands of miles away, made a video. Our society is indeed paper thin. If you don't understand the massive difference between some guy making a video and AlQueda knocking down skyscrapers in New York, killing thousands of people, having declared war on the USA, then frankly nobody can help you lose your bias Posted by Yabby, Monday, 24 September 2012 9:30:19 AM

BTW, why is it, in your view, that the US is building and manning all these military posts in our top end . Just for something to do maybe!
As for your model Muslim family, I am the first to agree that so many, like these, exist. But, the fact remains that the hate and threats of beheading come from the religion, and it is for this reason that I stand where I stand.
W have demonstrations all the time, unionists, indigenous, gays, tree buggers, you name it, but not one of them threatens another's life.
