Coming into the State election neither Labor or Liberal have a creditable energy policy, actually they don't have any creditable policies at all. Keneally's policy is "Let me buy your vote", O'Farrell's policy is "I'll tell you all about it after the election". The only party with a decent energy policy is The Greens.

Belly wisely says:

"Barry has not won the election ..."

I question whether he even wants to.

It seems the bulk of politicians, irrespective of party, these days, want CAREERS, rather than to represent and implement the wishes of the public. On the question of selling off electricity generation and distribution, around 80% of the public have held the view that this should not happen. Of its politicians, the public has wanted OBEDIENCE in this matter, not self-justification. So far it hasn't got it.

Implementing the wishes of that clear majority that does not want power sold off is not seen, even by opposition politicians, as being good for a political career. Hence the reluctance to commit on the issue.

It would be very good, and only justice, if the ALP was absolutely decimated at the upcoming elections in terms of seats won. It would be very good to see many of the all-too-numerous politically incestuous situations whereby one partner is an MP or even a Minister, and the other is high up in the bureaucracy, broken up. But don't count on it happening to the point that they will lose government!

Very quietly, last April, NSW legislated to introduce 'automatic electoral enrolment'. The upshot of that is that from 350,000 to 400,000 extra names may be automatically emplaced on rolls by the NSWEC, and have votes claimed in them, right up to just before 6:00 PM on polling day. Changes of address notified on things like drivers' licences will be the bases for this enrolling of persons qualified to be electors in districts where it would seem that they may now be living.

Only this last week I watched a TV documentary on the police force. Two constables had found a suspect for a traffic offence in possession of multiple fake photoID drivers' licences all in different names, but all showing his photo. No doubt each of those aliases had an address, and will appear on an electoral roll somewhere (probably marginal) now.

News reports are already making the 'surprise' result believable. http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/state-election-2011/young-voters-are-swimming-against-the-tide-20110216-1awmx.html

579,
The energy expended to produce solar products including batteries also uses CO2. We had total solar at the farm but it required a deisel generator to top up batteries one day in every four and the 32v bank of batteries had to be replaced every 8 years at a cost of about $8,000.

Belly,
Thanks for the response; however I cannot support a party whose dogma and creed on social agenda so opposes my family values. Dr Moyes can both uphold green values and social values as he done in Parliament on many occasions like opposing the Snowy water sale and mining affecting agricultural production in NSW west and the Hunter. In my view the Greens would create unemployment thus affecting families income and destroy the cohesive family.

The way a government owned entity continually makes a profit is by raising prices and passing them on to the consumer. If you believe NSW consumers are not paying a premium for their power, you are sadly mistaken.

The comment made about the automatic enrollment of those not on the
rolls has raised an alarm in me.
When someone is enrolled this way are they notified ?
If not "someone" could give the list to their party and have a number
of party members go around in their name to hundreds of polls.
In marginal seats it could really tip the balance.

I never realised that the banks, supermarkets oil companies etc were owned by the government.
