Swamp Donkey,

I realise that you as an arts graduate are barely literate and not scholarly, but there is a book designed to help retards called a dictionary. But a hint should be in the word scholarship.

You can call yourself a scholar or even the king of the world, your problem is that no one believes you.

shadyminister,

I don't know why you don't believe me. I keep telling the same story over and over again.

I believe that you are just an engineer with degrees in engineering, commerce and business. I see no reason to believe otherwise.

I think it is a matter of you not wanting to accept that there are people like me who are not satisfied with being just an engineer. That we want to be better than just an engineer.

We can't all be like you.

Swamp donkey,

Why don't I believe you?

1 You wouldn't know the truth if it bit you.

2 I think you are even a competent engineer and are simply trying to compensate for your inadequacies.

3 No one is "just" anything, which means that you have learnt as little from the humanities as you did from engineering.

shadyminister,

I was one year out from completing my engineering degree when I realised I had made a big mistake.

I walked away from it but came back a year later to complete it only because I had to finish something I had started.

So personally I don't give two hoots about being a good or bad engineer. It's just a trade.

Give me the Arts things like history, sociology, anthropology, archaeology, philosophy, etc. any day of the week.

Swamp donkey,

Engineering, like many other callings appeals to those of a certain temperament. For those that are suited engineering is extremely rewarding both intellectually and financially and comparisons between professions finds engineers amongst the highest with regards to happiness and satisfaction. However, if your temperament is not a good match then as with most professions success and happiness tends to elude you.

I am glad that you find satisfaction in pursuing the humanities and I wish you well you don't have to justify your life choices, but then neither does anyone else.
