shadyminister,

I just found this equation in my Engineer's Handbook:

SCHOLAR = 1 x BA + 2 x MA

Yep ...... that's me alright.

Swamp Donkey,

At university, arts was considered an also-ran degree for those that couldn't tackle a real degree. You waving your BAs and MAs at me has the same effect as waving lettuce. The best you can hope for is my pity for your lonely worthless existence.

P.S. I have never lived in the UK.

Maybe you should return to China your ancestral home.

shadyminister,

An Arts degree is the pathway for people who want to be scholars such as historians, anthropologists, sociologists, archaeologists, philosophers, etc.

A Science degree is of course the pathway for those who want to be scientists.

Then there are the vocational degrees like engineering, architecture, medicine, law, etc. for those who basically just need to get a job.

I did my mechanical engineering degree because I needed a job then followed up with my degrees in anthropology, sociology and history because I wanted to be a scholar.

Now I am a worker like you but in addition I am also one of the country's most educated people.

In my opinion I made a great choice. If I hadn't done my Arts degrees I probably would have ended up a miserable unhappy jealous sod like you.

Swamp Donkey,

As I was awarded scholarships for both a private high school and university, I am by definition a scholar, and given the rigour of my degrees and your inadequacy in the subjects you have studied, I am easily more educated than you. I doubt that you have even had anything published.

I also don't share your misery and loneliness and don't feel the inadequacy that drives you to accumulate worthless qualifications.

shadyminister,

You are vocationally trained in engineering, commerce and business. These are not scholarly pursuits.

Being awarded a scholarship to assist financially in further study does not make one a scholar. Every research degree candidate in Australia in awarded a Commonwealth postgraduate scholarship even if the PG study is in a vocational area like law or engineering.

Personally I don't think you would be able to get through an Arts degree. I don't think you have what it takes to be something like a historian, anthropologist, sociologist, archaeologist, philosopher, etc.

Stick to being just an engineer. It's you all over.
