To ALTRAV, on page 9 you said that there is no God, and that the people of the past would accept the idea of God because of their poverty. But today we are different. More informed. I would challenge you on all three counts, that we are different then our ancestors, that we are more informed (at least with regards to God), and that God doesn't exist.

First the basis of God being real, and God being fake are both challenged by Christians (or anyone of any faith) leaving their faith saying they never found God; as well as challenged by atheists who then become believers, saying they found God, or found His undeniable force. These two elements are the breakaways from both religious and atheistic views potential for indoctrination. Whether God is real or not is not a straight answer, that only the indoctrinated don't get. On that basis, if God is real, then the reason to believe in Him shines throughout history, not on the conditions of history that we have overcome.

Second point. Being more informed is not really accurate. On so many subjects, we have expanded our knowledge. But in the area of religion, there's a different dynamic. In order to have an unbiased view and teach from subjects that don't rely on God, many schools leave out God entirely. Even to the point of trying to remove any mention or discussion about God.

Consider it this way. In a place of learning one topic is entirely shunned, and is a blind spot in educational programs. On the scope of that topic how is that not indoctrination as much as going to church is blamed for indoctrinating Christians. What is obvious to some one who never knew God, saying that God doesn't exist is a sad reality to those who know God: that people are still blind and have no idea.

Third point. Are we really that different from our ancestors? Have we actually changed or evolved? Throughout history there are many of the same struggles. They've even been written about in different general that seem to be just as relatable today. Shakespeare wrote on themes we still use. Romance, war, suffering, and good verses evil are all repeated stories that we haven't changed from. Neither have we today solved the problem that entice our world. Corruption, cruelty, violence, and greed affect the would on a large scale. Broken marriages, poverty, competition for wealth and jobs, and the survival sense to keep guard against others in case they might harm you or steal from you are all things that affect us on an individual level.

As far as I can tell little has changed about people except our medicine and our technology. I'm sure our ancestors were just as smart (or dumb) as we are. Even without a standardized school system.

"For those of you persisting in favour of religion, you must come to terms with the fact that ALL the religious accounts, mostly in written form, was the work of people who were followers or believers."

//I think it's a wrong approach to say what Christians believe or what they disregard, when you aren't a Christian yourself.//

I think it's a wrong approach to say what physicists believe or what they disregard, when you don't even understand the 2nd Law. Perhaps you have many friends who claim to understand thermodynamics, but who don't believe in the same 2nd Law that most physicists believe in. If that's where your getting your info then you should read more widely. But if on the other hand you say most physicists don't believe in the commonly understood, well-established version of the 2nd Law because it's too outrageous to believe, then I'd advise against that logic.

But that has never stopped you in the past, has it? Remember the Golden Rule, NNS: if you don't want interlopers straying onto your turf, stay the heck away from theirs (I'm paraphrasing a bit).

//I don't know if that's a majority view, but it is definitely a contending perspective.//

It's neither. Biblical literalism definitely isn't a majority view - quite the opposite, in fact - because most people just can't take it seriously. That's why it isn't a contending perspective either - because most Christians view it as a joke that some backwards folk just haven't got yet.

//I'm sure our ancestors were just as smart (or dumb) as we are.//

No, that's really not the case. Intelligence, like every human characteristic, is the result of genetics and environment. Even if we assume no significant genetic change over the short timeframe (biologically speaking, for a species with a fairly slow reproductive rate) since the industrial revolution, our environment has changed enormously, in ways that favour the development of higher intelligence: public libraries, universal education, better nutrition etc.

"Early Writing Tablet recording the allocation of beer, 3100-3000 B.C.E, Late Prehistoric period, clay, probably from southern Iraq.
© Trustees of the British Museum. The symbol for beer, an upright jar with pointed base, appears three times on the table. Beer was the most popular drink in Mesopotamia and was issued as rations to workers."
This temple account was written by Sadam the Atheist who believed his fake religion was opinionated .
