OK, let’s recap.

Data from ABS shows a 3% decrease in total spend on tobacco products between December 2012 and March Q 2014.

Taxes on cigarettes have increase since December 2012 by 17.8% (4.7% then 12.5%).

Therefore to have any increase in number of cigarettes purchased would require everyone to have switched to brands that are 21.7% cheaper. So where is the evidence that has happened? It is simply not there.

By the way, why won’t industry release the report this 0.3% increase in cigarette sales is taken from? What are they hiding?
