P,

So the first thing you do is run to your left whinge blogs to find an alternative.

While you lay a tremendous store by SK's 15 min google search, a story in the Australian that has independent sources and fact checkers still carries more credibility

Poirot, let hope that the French don't understand Abbott's gobbledygook, at least, hopefully in that way if Pierre doesn't understand it will save Australia the embarrassment. And the French are a touchy mob at the best of times and knowing our Tone he is prone to foot in mouth, saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, like reminding the French "how did ya go at Waterloo?" If Tone does drop a clanger, hopefully there will be an aid near by who can shove another perfetta roll in his gob.
Also, Australian diplomats are still working behind the scenes to convince these foreign countries thta Abbott is visiting that he's actually in fact the PM of New Zealand, in that way we can deflect the embarrassment on to our ex mates from across the ditch, them there Kiwi's.
Tone has told the French while he's in France he would love a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, as Tone has said already to his hosts "I'd love to get up there and get eye full of ya wonderful town of Berlin, and what better spot to get an eye full than on top ya Eye Full Tower....did the Poms knock that up for ya or something. you didn't build it yourself did ya...a bit ugly, needs a paint job!" Diplomacy where ever our Tone goes.

Actually Poirot is right as can be seen in the latest National Accounts http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/abs@.nsf/DetailsPage/5206.0Mar%202014?OpenDocument

Select Table 8. Household Final Consumption Expenditure and then look for

Cigarettes and Tobacco Series Number A2303415T

$3405 million for March quarter of 2014. Lowest it has been in the data set since 1959. December 2012 quarter $3508 million.

What the writer in the Australian seems to forget was that plain packaging was not designed to make existing smokers stop, but to make cigarettes less attractive to new smokers. The real effects if any will be seen in some years time.

SM,

I didn't "run" to a left wing blog.

I saw the link on twitter and had a read.

And blow me down, it contained factual data which repudiates the rubbish in the Australian defending its mates in the tobacco industry.

As in :

"The figures from the ABS show that total consumption of tobacco and cigarettes in the March quarter 2014 is the lowest ever recorded – and this with the series starting in 1959. This is extraordinary. It is a Great Depression for tobacco sales."

".... a story in the Australian that has independent sources and fact checkers still carries more credibility"

Hahaha!...yeah!, pull the other one.

The Australian has as much credibility on this subject as it does on climate change.

Ergo...None!

Dear Shadow Minister,

You just can't seem to take a trick. I have just finished posting a reply to another thread where you had been spreading outright untruths and the very next one I open I find you at it again.

This forum isn't quite yet a Liberal Party Branch meeting. You will get picked up for posting garbage and as it seems to be your wont at this stage you will get caned for it.

A warning though, as I cautioned you earlier if you keep spruiking this rubbish you will slip out the arse end of relevancy. When every thing you post is quickly found to be rubbish that will be the default setting others will view it and you will be slotted just above runner in their estimation.

Time to turn it around. Check your facts before you post. You have on occasion posted some decent stuff in the past and could do so again with a better effort.
