Yes, it's interesting that a paper with "a conservative slant" would put up that particular story. In the past, it's headlined stories attacking the consensus on climate change - one that it was forced to retract.

With the 24hr news cycle (which means that information is "news" only for a day or even hours), the time available for scrutiny is limited, and while reasonably high standards can be maintained, errors do slip through given the hundreds of articles printed every day by Newscorp.

Other news organisations such as Fairfax and the ABC don't have clean records on this issue either. Notably the string of lawsuits the ABC has lost for defamation.
