My understanding of the separation of powers is this: Legislative, Executive and Judicial. The executive power (ie implementing the laws, running the country through Ministers, Government departments etc.) is ultimately exercised by the Queen through the Governor-General, who is the commander in chief of the military; in practice by the Minister of Defence. So the military is answerable to a civilian, indeed the highest civilian.

As usual the reality is always more complicated see http://www.gg.gov.au/about-governor-general/governor-general-commander-chief

Dear Cossomby,

Thanks for that. However, Scott Morrison certainly does not
qualify.

Foxy,

I didn't say that a clvlian commanded the Military but that the Military is answerable to a civilian, there is a difference.

Foxy,

Weren't Ms Julia Whatshername (as PM) and Ms Quentin Bryce (as GG) in control of the defence forces? As many migrants who fled the sort of Left totalitarian regimes that you seem to prefer would inform you, it is essential to freedom and democracy that the military be controlled by elected civilians and especially the military's budget.

Consider France where a Foreign Legion with too much independence from civilian control is alleged to have plotted to assassinate its president.

The problem with those way-out 'independent' sites you get that tripe from, Foxy is that they are not subject to the scrutiny and the checks and balances of mainstream news outlets.

Typically you will now 'broken record', compounding your original errors of fact and judgement, and scolding anyone who kindly endeavours to help you see your own blind spot. You are a 'librarian' you assert and librarians -presumably hard Left librarians- always know what is best for everyone. Of course you do, Dear.

You really shouldn't rely on those flaky internet sites you cherry-pick to confirm your world views. Hard to see the facts with your eyes wide shut.

Dear Is Mise,

Let me also re-instate what I said:

The ADA (Australian Defence Assoication) should raise
concerns that having a military officer answer directly
as a commander to the Immigration Minister could breach
the Defence Act and The Westminster Convention of
separate military command from civil control of the
military.

Foxy,

The elected Parliament does not agree with you. Y'know, the elected Parliament you disagree with that is serving the public that you scold for 'making a mistake' electing same?

Thank goodness there are many who still remember the terrible cost of freedom from the tyrants who know what is best for everyone and for whom freedom, elections and democratic processes are impediments.

There was an election. The (left) 'Progressives', the wolves in sheep's clothing who have a monkey's grip on Labor, were put out of government. The public has demanded and emphatically too, that the boats be stopped. That sticks in your craw, but it is democracy at work and many here will fight to keep it that way.
