We've discussed that one before, OUG, like when I asked Runner if
I should kill my neighbour for working on the Sabbath. The Christians
have given themselves an escape clause, saying that the old testament
is how things used to be and that it does not really matter, as its
not God's literal words. So they worship Jesus and the New Testament
instead.

The problem with Islam is that they still claim that the words of
the Koran are literally God's words as divulged to them by Muhammed,
when he heard those voices. Now if you claim that not to be the
case, ie many people hear voices, just ask the schyzophrenic and
heavy dope smokers,
you land up with a blasphemy charge and its time for off with your
head.

Dear Poirot,

I have a rather sore head at the moment so this will not be expansive but I don't think you need to be too concerned with the preoccupation of some for 'staying on topic'. This thread is well over 400 posts long and the OP dropped off at least 200 posts ago.

I have often found some of the best OLO offers is a hundred plus posts into a topic. Most of those who fire in gratuitous remarks have left and those who are interested enough to keep kicking the issue around generally start posting more thoughtful and reasoned responses. Granted it has taken a little longer here but there is some measured and interesting stuff coming through.

If someone takes a topic in a different direction then it is up to others if they want to follow. If they do then often calls to 'return to the topic' can become diversionary in themselves.

Dear Danielle,

Good to see some hopeful links thank you. What I was exploring was how different a future Israel might look if demographics have their way and the fundamentalist/orthodox/settler communities are in the majority. Actually to really cut to the chase how different from a more forcefully Islamic country might it would look? I obviously feel not a lot but am open to a dissenting argument.

“Israel is the only democratic society that prevents its Jews from living as they wish. The stranglehold of Orthodoxy deprives Jews of what they’ve been granted in all other democracies.”¯

“Only in Israel, as in Nazi Germany, are Jews prevented from marrying non-Jews, or Jews who are considered insufficiently “Jewish.”

“Rabbi Yaacov Perin declared: “One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail.”¯

So we need to ask is it the brand of religion or religion itself, given enough unfettered power in a society, that causes the issues we are seeing in the Middle East? Perhaps the degree of religiosity in the Abrahamic faiths that is the ultimate arbiter of a propensity to do violence against others.

Dear Yabby,

This is pretty easy. Ask any Christian fundamentalist why they have a problem with homosexuality the will quote Leviticus. Ask them to show where Jesus condemned homosexuality and they again refer you to Leviticus then to Jesus' words in Matthew "Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.”

Ask runner if he would like to see a return to blasphemy laws and I think you will get a truer picture of intent.

An interesting read, only a start once read surely the Koran comes next?
With eyes and heart open, no other way to take it in.
A story of absolutes, total absolutes .
And if taken as read?
Surely no room exists to question why we see clashes on the streets.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_do_Muslims_hate_Christians_so_much
This link will take some reading, maybe half an hour.
But in the first 2 minutes, yes only that.
You will see both the lie exposed and the term live within, can not be sure of the word, controlled by Islam!
Some, on both sides of this debate have never read any thing about it.
This link is worth the time.
