Vassal states? Like France, Germany, UK, Australia, Japan etc? No, more like Cuba, El Salvador, Belarus etc. The USSR and free west had a long running pissing competition over economic performance. Venezuela is just another socialist experiment trying to blame others for its failures. As Venezuela and North Korea have demonstrated, your nation can be endowed with great natural riches, yet socialism can very quickly transform the nation into a feudal system, replete with incredible inequality, destitution and hardship.
