After all, what does self-determination mean if people don't want to make any use of any land that they get back ? I know that sounds capitalist, Western, whitefella, but before contact, people also used their land, they didn't just sit back and wait to get fed by the pelicans. Why on Earth were we campaigning for land rights if people never intended to build some sort of economic base ?

So now, about a fifth of the entire Australian land-mass - not all of it desert - is under Indigenous control. Even much of the 'desert' country would be okay for cattle, and who knows what minerals might lie beneath that Indigenous-controlled fifth ?

So is a demand for ALL of Australia - given that people won't make any use of it - nothing more than a childish, spiteful game of "It's ours now, you can't have it, nyah, nyah."

And when will people get it into their heads that 'sovereignty' means 'no more funding from outside' ? 'Self-rule' ? 'Self-determination' ? 'Autonomy' ? 'Do it all yourself, feed yourself somehow from your own efforts, and pay for it all yourself' ? Do some Indigenous people have a naive idea that a fairy-godmother government pays THEM merely because they own land ? As a sort of reward for being land-owners ? And that they are some sort of feudal lords ?

All I can suggest is that whatever they are doing, they should stop it or they'll go blind.
