Happy fortieth Tent Embassy : Comments

By Toni Hassan, published 26/1/2012

When four young Aboriginal men, Anderson among them, erected a beach umbrella (and later a donated tent) and called it the Aboriginal Tent Embassy they got the national media's attention.

...Do I detect a little "Redneck" rage! No racism on this page though, funny that!

The people occupying the Tent Embassy do not represent aborigines. They are just violent thugs. Tony Abbott is right, everyone else has moved on and so should they. And Diver Dan, just because you do not agree with some comments does not make them rednecks or racists. You are obviously emotional immature and need to grow up.

Bookman write

'he people occupying the Tent Embassy do not represent aborigines '

then why would the gutless Government let them squat next the Parliament house for 40 years? I doubt whether you will hear any aborginal leaders rebuking those thugs.

Agreed Cheryl. It's an odd way to start a campaign for a change in the constitution to support indigenous Australians.

Thanks Diver - the best way to engage in any discussion is to shout 'racist' as if that settles anything.

Diver Dan,
'Redneck" is a Racial slur, are you doing a bit of "BYO Racism" in lieu of any significant outrage at yesterday's events?
Here's a quote for you, from me. "As a White Racialist I applaud the defensive actions of the Indigenous activists against the genocidal Australian government"

Senior Victorian.
All I saw was a bunch of scared cops over reacting and a security detail playing G.I Joe for the camera, their path to the car was not obstructed by protesters, only photographers and camera men who scurried out of the way when the "Flying Wedge" tore past them, the whole episode is so stupid.

The first post is interesting, "rememberance" is a noble concept, I hate "reconciliation" as implies that Aborigines were also to blame for their own Genocide.
The only people who need to reconcile the events of the past are White Australians who insist on taking the blame for policies they had no hand in drafting and which applied to people who were to all intents and purposes invisible to the mainstream.
