Dear Aidan,
Thank You for your civility and rational comments. Most of us know that vaccines do not completely prevent us from getting illnesses - but they do provide safeguards for us to be able to survive the illness. Flu shots are just one example. Why on earth would people not use this protection to safeguard not only themselves but others around them? I suspect that it is due to the misinformation and falsities that are being banded around. I know because initially I also fell for the misinformation thinking that only Pfizer was good. But low and behold - when I swallowed my fears and got two jabs of Seneca with no side effects - I realised I had been foolish. The urge to protect myself and my family and community proved stronger than my fears and believing the misinformation. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 9 January 2022 12:26:36 PM

Now back to the topic.
Sports Illustrated tells us that - France's sports minister said on Friday that Novak Djokovic can play in this year's French Open, even if he is not vaccinated for COVID. Apparently France does not prevent unvaccinated people from entering the country. However, there are stricter protocols compared to those for vaccinated individuals. In the meantime, Novak has chosen to stay and sit in Australian detention waiting for a hearing on his medical exemption for the vaccination requirement for those entering the country. Novak traveled to Australia after Victorian state authorities granted him a medical exemption to the country's strict vaccination requirements. However upon arrival Australian Border Force rejected Novak's exemption as invalid and barred him from entering the country. A lawyer for the government previously said Novak should not be deported before his hearing which is set for Monday. Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews has said that the tennis star " Is free to leave at any time that he chooses ... and Border Force will actually facilitate that." http://si.com/tennis/2022/01/07/novak-djokovic-allowed-french-open-france-sports-minister-australian-open-medical-exemption Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 9 January 2022 1:02:23 PM

For those who don't speak Foxy-ese, when she writes "I have no wish to continue this discussion with you" the translation is that she realises she is on the wrong side of the argument, has no counter-argument but can't bring herself to acknowledge it. She uses that phrase a lot.
'Your ignorance covers this forum like a blanket". For someone who claims that she wants to raise the level of civility in the forum, its strange that Foxy seems to be the first to reach for the ad hominem when challenged. Aidan, wrote" Being double vaccinated doesn't give you COMPLETE protection against catching covid, " Which is why I didn't say it did, unlike others. "but it reduces your chances of catching it." There's no evidence for that, especially as regards the latest variant. "And if double vaxxed people do catch it, they become contagious, but neither as highly contagious nor remaining contagious for as long as the unvaxxed." The second part of that is true. The first isn't. With delta, the vaccinated seem to be contagious for a day or two less than the unvaccinated. There's no data for omicron. We were talking about people protecting their loved ones. Being contagious for 5 days rather than 7 doesn't make much difference, especially if the loved one is in the same household. So again, the benefits of the vaccine to anyone other than the actually vaccinated, is at best minor. the chances of a vaccinated person passing it on to a family member in a five day period is essentially the same as an unvaccinated person passing on in a 7 day period. The rest is straw clutching as the totalitarians scramble to justify their desire to enforce the vaccine onto the reluctant. Paul, wrote: "I know a lot of these anti-vaxxers think by doing so they are being loyal to their měssiah Dangerous Doctor Donald". Most of the vaccine reluctant in the US are from Democrat voting regions. Posted by mhaze, Sunday, 9 January 2022 2:04:54 PM

mhaze,
Pointing out that bigotry is about being certain of something you know nothing about is not an ad hominem attack. It's simply stating a fact. And it's obvious to most people that facts are not your area of expertise. After all you still believe and support Donald Trump's fraudulent claim that he won the election. That it was stolen from him. Nothing more needs to be said. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 9 January 2022 3:38:06 PM
