The fire fighters & Emergency personnel with many, many volunteers did all the dirty work. They weren't sitting in an air conditioned office repeating at high salaries what the people on the ground told them.
Landline is a program that clearly shows that good content programs can be produced without some Academic "experts" meddling in everything !

Lives were saved as a result of people acting on
information the ABC provided.

The ABC's research was submitted to the Royal Commission
into National Natural Disaster Arrangements which was
established in response to the extreme bushfire
season of 2019-2020.

For many people when digital and telecommunications failed
in bushfire impacted areas the ABC local radio was the
only way to access timely information and helped people
survive.
