Is Mise,
Paul is NEVER funny. His attempts at humour are at best tiresome. So firstly, please don't encourage him to pursue comedy. And secondly, when he's not attempting comedy, he deserves to be taken seriously. It is a very serious problem, and pretending it's a joke won't help. It's appropriate to treat Trump himself as a laughingstock, but those crazed supporters are a real danger to democracy. Posted by Aidan, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 10:40:55 PM

Hi Issy
Re your reference to: "Here's someone to watch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_McInerney Posted by Is Mise, Tuesday, 12 January 2021 7:04:25 PM" Noting retired General McInerney is 83 years old and judging by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_McInerney#Views He's a right nutjob. With those strange views, McInerney is just the kind of nutter Trump would pleasure. Posted by plantagenet, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 12:14:55 AM

Is Mise,
Sorry, I thought you had completed an Arts degree. So I take it that you must have dropped out of Arts at Sydney in the first year and never went back. Nothing wrong with that. It's a lot harder than people think. So what did you end up doing, one of those trade things like engineering, accountancy, etc? Posted by Mr Opinion, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 4:03:01 AM

Issy,
Are you upset that you got eliminated for the third year running by that bind nun with the 12 gauge shotgun at the 'Ivan Milat Memorial Shoot Out'? Or is it the poor sales of your unpopular cook book, 'Road Kill Recipes for the Unsuccessful Hunter' I do enjoy the 'Fricasseed Rabbit with a Galah Sauce', my favourite. Got a couple of dead crows I picked up on the track a couple of months back, any ideas? Aiden, I appreciate your words of encouragement. Some serious stuff for you. There could be more than a million Americans, young to middle aged white men and women from conservative small town America. People of lower economic standing and of basic educational levels, who seen Trump as a "savour" who would restore their position in society, a position they feel has been stolen from them. These people are prepared to fight to restore their stolen rights, and thus restore their economic wellbeing, making them part of the "Make America Great Again" movement. Many of these people now view Trump as a traitor who has capitulated to the forces he was supposedly going to save them from. This mob is armed and dangerous, feeling betrayed and given radical leadership who knows what a force like that is capable of. Posted by Paul1405, Wednesday, 13 January 2021 5:49:59 AM

Paul1405,
Putting the jokes to the side I think everyone would agree that the US is still the most fascinating place in history. Anything can happen there and it never ceases to surprise. Where Trump failed is that he thought America could be a product of Trump and failed to see Trump as a product of America. So to all those avid America followers I say: "Are we surprised?"
