Indy ok, true but think about the frail aged, they are often the victims
Because they are frail aged
Most of us, from time to time have put in print our concerns about court verdicts here
Just this past week sentences of 40 years and 37, have been handed down for acts of terrorism
Well done! but too child rapists have got 10 years
And, we all know, some ice addicts get to walk out of court, some, multiple times

Hi there INDIVIDUAL -

I have to agree with you, my friend. Everybody is morally & legally entitled to defend themselves & others, against a violent attack. And to have a group of lawyers sitting in a nice comfortable, air-conditioned room, ruminating on whether or not you were justified, taking the measures you did, to defend yourselves, is utterly absurd!

Just as absurd; the law allows you to defend yourself, provided you don't carry and use an implement or tool calculated to do so.

Another absurdity; are those few 'boofheads' who believe they have this inalienable right, to shoot anyone who happens to come to their front door during hours of darkness, irrespective of their lawfulness or otherwise. Common sense, together with the law, must prevail.

No problem with that o sung wo, you would be aware of some charged over defending their homes/selves
Still concerned at those committing crimes against those who just cannot defend themselves even with a gun
Country towns, deeply affected by ice, see such crimes every week
Not truly sure if we can ever stop that type of crime if the courts continue to release the perpetrators with a slap on the wrist

o sung wu,
It's because of the increasing numbers of boofheads & other incompetent useless, that we really need to seriously consider a National Service to counter this dreadful trend.
I don't care what people say but it is my firm belief that without some discipline we have absolutely no hope of bettering the mentality that is the cause of so much stupidity at ultimately the cost of all of us.

Issy, you still haven't said how you would prevent a known criminal from stealing a 12 gauge legal shotgun, and going on a rampage killing four and seriously injuring a fifth.

Maybe this is the answer!

A Dads Army of armed to the teeth old fuddy duddy's, running around shooting up the town, that's all we need!

Hi again INDIVIDUAL...

I reckon you've hit the nail squarely on the head. A lack of personal discipline. With discipline, comes a sense of social maturity and responsibility towards other members of the community. Instead of this constant 'me, me, me,' we hear so often. The unrestrained sounds of self-gratification and appeasement, from our over-indulged youth. And that can't be too bad.

The coppers can only do so much, after all, when they (police) have to intercede, generally, it's become all too late for the errant young offender. One minor mistake can give a young person a criminal record. Which, in turn, can inhibit that person from pursuing some worthwhile career paths, albeit it was only a minor mistake.

I understand INDIVIDUAL you've always been a keen supporter of National Service for our young. And I also support that view. However, many of my (own) ex-service mates, don't share our opinion. Many claim our Military has evolved into a far more specialised and technical institution than it was in our time? Consequently, they now claim they need recruits with a bit of common sense and aptitude, and they reckon many of these young blokes of today, virtually can't even tie their shoelaces? I don't know about that; It doesn't seem to be a ringing endorsement of our young people, now does it?
