Paul,

"Thank you for confirming the legality of the weapon used. At some stage it was perfectly legal and in the hands of a legal gun owner"

How do you know?

The weapon was illegal under Australia's gun laws, for all that you or anyone else knows it may have been smuggled in by bikies or others dealing in the very profitable illicit market that the gun laws created.

There is no doubt that the shootings in Darwin are seen as a failure of the gun laws.

Care to answer the outstanding questions?

Ise Mise in my youth I owned guns, legally, but almost any one could then
We, deeply impressed with a ww2 veteran Uncles teaching, made very sure they, and us, behaved very very safely
I carried that training on long after he passed
And thought his younger than me son, was doing the same
He however panicked, bright summer day out on the veranda of a big farm house
He spotted a snake, ran inside to get the gun, and shot his wife
They lived along while after that, but he never held a gun again
Our problem is not people like you, skilled and trained, it is the truth filth who do not intend anything good once they have gun in hand

Yeah, Belly,

I worked with three blokes who often went "pig shooting" their kit was guns and slabs of beer. I'm sure these jerks shot more than pigs. The pigs would be to smart for them anyway.

Here's my gun law Issy, no guns allowed in the general community, full stop. Anyone caught with as much as a water pistol after X date, 20 years jail. I know as a fully paid up member of the Australian chapter of the NRA, you will not agree, no guns means no more funds, from you know who.

Hi there Belly -

You asked a very legitimate question, a question our lawmakers and behavioral scientists also seek the same answer, why? '...It too asks why, why some youth do this to those who cannot defend themselves...'? Because they can! Women, the very young, and the elderly, are easy marks for these predatory youths, and the only way to stop them, is to lock them up and let them see how well they can look after themselves in gaol.

PAUL,

"Here's my gun law Issy, no guns allowed in the general community, full stop. "

But you will, of course, disarm the criminals before you disarm the law abiding licenced gun owners, won't you?

It seems to be Greens policy to disarm the law-abiding as when they had the chance to support tougher gun laws in NSW they chickened out, probably owed one to their drug dealing mates.

I see you are still trying the now completely debunked lie that the USNRA funds Australian organizations.

Paul1405,
I'd like to witness how you'd behave when confronted by a huge boar, sow & piglets or a pack of feral dogs etc.
I have stated many times that there is no justifiable need for someone in suburbia to have a .357 magnum or a .44 etc just to shoot at targets at a gun club. A .22 or even an air gun are more than adequate for someone to show off.
Out in the scrubby country things are far more serious but again, there's no justification for automatic assault rifles etc.
A bloke I know carries a 410 which saved him a couple of times from large, angry Browns.
