Don't be taken in by sensationalist material published in the Sydney 'Daily Tellthemcrap'. The only protested endorsed by the NSW Greens on 26th is the annual protest march from Redfern to the Town Hall, where it is usual for 2,000 to 3,000 people to take part. The organizers always stress before the march begins that it is a peaceful protest, and relations with the police have always been good during its progression.
Peace is paramount, its just a pity that the European has not displayed a whole lot of it towards his indigenous brothers and sisters over the past couple of hundred years.
No one that I know are planning to disrupt any festivities, including the tugboats doing ballet dancing on the harbour, is that a reenactment of something Phillip did? Heck! a local pub is advertising topless barmaids on Australia Day, how more patriotic can you get; meat pies, kangaroos, Holden cars, and boobs with ya beer! Seems this particular pub is extremely patriotic celebrating Australia Day every Thursday afternoon in the same manner. There is some other crazed Ocker on the telly extolling us to kill more sheep on Australia Day and offer them as sacrifice to the Booze God on the BBQ! I think it is to revive memories of Captain Cook or some such thing.
Lets hope there are no tourists in town on that day, we don't want them going home with the wrong idea about us Aussies.
