Paul,
It was your link that shewed a difference between white and black, but as you ask, it is possible that the blacks commit crime out of proportion to their population percentage. Posted by Is Mise, Thursday, 1 December 2016 6:03:36 PM

"it is possible that the blacks commit crime out of proportion to their population percentage."
I will accept that as a statistical fact, but give it no prominence or significance, particularity in relation to gun deaths, the only number of significance to me is 91. Just as if you were to say left handed people commit crime out of proportion to their population percentage. If you were to say that, should I feel good because I am right handed? If you are not simply being racially motivated, how about answering the questions. <<Your post indicates you discount the lives of Hispanic and Black people, compared to good White folk, otherwise you would not have mentioned it, and made such a point. What is the significance? What value do you put on Hispanic and Black lives compared to the lives of good White folk?>> I may also add you discount the value of the lives of people who commit suicide. Hopefully, David will not return from the US and exclaim: "91 people a day die at the hand of a gun in America, but don't worry, they are mostly Hispanic, Black and suicide losers! Thank god there are not too many good White folk in the numbers, praise the lord! You brought up the subject. Posted by Paul1405, Thursday, 1 December 2016 7:21:59 PM

Paul,
What is significant about the US total suicide rate is that it is not very high compared to other wealthy countries, Australia's we can take as a low benchmark(11/100,000 [0.8 by gun]) although it is high compared to Italy, Spain and the UK. The US has a total rate of 12.4/100,000 population (with 6.3 being by guns). the Republic of Korea tops at 31.5/100,000 (zero by gun). Hungary comes next 24.9/100,000 (0.8 by gun). Japan:23.1/100,000 (zero by gun). Belgium: 18.4/100,000 (1.2 by gun). Finland: 17.8/100,000 (3.3 by gun). France: 16.5/100,000 (2.2 by gun). Austria: 15.1/100,000 (2.7 by gun). http://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-u-s-gun-deaths-compare-to-other-countries/ So Americans are less likely to suicide than many other countries despite the high firearms ownership rates, so we may conclude that owning a gun has nothing to do with a tendency towards suicide. Perhaps Sandalplank will note this above and this below. The UNODC World Homicide rates for 192 countries puts the USA below the median. http://crimeresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Homicide-rates-across-all-countries.jpeg Posted by Is Mise, Thursday, 1 December 2016 9:15:50 PM

//Do you suggest Malcolm Turnbull should remain in Canberra and engage with world leaders through the internet.//
I think he probably already does. He wouldn't be much use as PM if he was overseas all the time. Of course, he is the PM and not some back-bench nobody from a State parliament, so he does have a role to play representing Australia on the international stage that back-bench nobodies do not. The occasional overseas trip is warranted in his case - although that a lot of the time we'd be better off having the Governor-General do it instead, so that we actually get some use out of the buggers. We can pack Peter off overseas to represent us, and keep Malcolm at home to run the country. //Are you suggesting people go to China if they want to speak to American, I would choose to go to America to speak to American// No, I'm suggesting they stay home and phone an American. I imagine that Alexander Graham Bell is sitting on a cloud somewhere right now, watching St. Dave make his pilgrimage and scratching his head in bemusement at all these people who have entirely missed the point of his brilliant invention. //Where does Greens policy say no traveling in airplanes.// I don't think it does. But if you believed that climate change was a really bad thing wouldn't you want to try and limit your flying to the strictly essential stuff? And if you were a member of political party whose core constituency believes very strongly that climate change is a really bad thing, wouldn't you want to be seen to be limiting your flying to the strictly essential stuff, so as not to appear in the eyes of those who might vote for you as a hypocritical twat that's only paying lip-service to the whole climate change thing to further his own political career? Is the racists now hiding under his bed sheet!
Is Mise, you failed to answer the questions. Should I assume you value Hispanic and Black lives at a rate of say 1% of the value of the life of good White folk, or is that too high. Obviously given all your statistical waffle you find 91 deaths a day at the hand of a gun in the US acceptable! I have recalculated given the discount for being Hispanic and Black and the new figure is 1 death a day by gun, and we will assume he is a suicide loser anyway. Problem solved! If 56 a day is not very high, what is your unacceptable figure? 560, 5600, 56,000, 560,000, 5,600,000, 56,000,000, 560,000,000, sorry take that last figure off, statistically impossible, all Americans would be dead before then. Toni, when the two Wombles from the Victorian Parliament went to the US on their junket, did you insist they take their guns with them on board the airplane for self protection, and to make a statement about their commitment to gun ownership and their right to self protection . Do you like Is Mise believe guns are perfectly safe and should be allowed to be carried on board airplanes? Do you support the content of this quote; "Gun Rights Australia (GRA) believes Australians should regain their rights to bear arms for self protection." The last paragraph of you post, that rubbish about no Greens on airplanes is only a belief of yours and not something others have to embrace. I travel on airplanes without any feelings of guilt. I think it was necessary for the Wombles to go personally to the US to talk to their friends and financial supporters. Because it is impossible to talk to someone by Bell telephone when they are talking back to you from under a white bed sheet. Is Mise can attests to that, he tried it once with his bed sheet on, he phoned the Grand Wizard Leroy from Alabama who was also wearing his bed sheet at the time, and communication was impossible. I do not differentiate, people are people, and all lives are of equal value.
"perhaps because more Americans are now carrying concealed pistols and gun sales have gone up." Or perhaps because pineapple sales have gone up. You can perhaps anything you like.
