Dear Is Mise,

Although I am a Green I do not support everything the Greens do. There is no party without flaws. I am not acquainted with the actions of David Shoebridge nor lies about the gun ownership of the Lyndt street terrorist.

However, I think you brought up a subject and were fobbed off with a joke. You were not treated with respect, and I did not like that. That is why I made my comment which was responding to you.

I stayed with my grandparents in the Adirondacks as a child. It was an impoverished area. Local people would usually avoid the woods during hunting season as inept city people would be shooting up anything that moves. After the season local people would go into the woods and shoot a deer to provide meat for their family during the winter. If I were a forest ranger in the area I would turn a blind eye to such activity.

However, the Greens support care for the environment and social justice more than any other party. Their recent support for separation of religion and state by getting chaplains out of the public schools is another reason I am quite happy to be a Green. IMHO there is more that is good about them than any other party. I will have to live with the flaws.

Paul,

As I said to David, I was not referring to the law but to stated Greens policy that a firearm should never be used for self defence.
If a firearm is used in such a way then it is up to the Court to decide if it was justified not the Greens.

What the Greens may have meant was that self defence should never be a reason for being licenced, if so that is already the law.

So as I said, inept use of language.

On the fact that it is statistically more dangerous for gun owners to have a gun than not to have one, there can hardly be any argument with that other than that it is fatuous.

Consider:
It is statistically more dangerous for________owners to have a/an_______ than to not have one.

Fill in the blanks.
Suggestions:
Knife, car, truck, aeroplane, pedal cycle, motorcycle, electric stove ad infinitum.

Do you know that it is statistically more likely that people who use steel nibs and ink wells will accidentally stab themselves with an ink laden nib and thus acquire an inadvertent tattoo?

David, the history of my discussion with Is Mise on gun laws in NSW over the last 12 months on the forum has seen Is Mise throw up these tedious odd ball scenarios including the highly improbable one about a stockman injured in the bush needing a gun to ward off feral pigs. over and over again. On many occasions I answered his concerns, so finally I did fob him off with a funny response. It would be respectful of him if he changed tack on this subject, instead of recycling the same old stuff over and over. What you conveyed to Is Mise in your intelligent response has been communicated to him time and time again by me, but unfortunately he finds that unacceptable.

Dear Paul1405,

When an appeal to reason doesn't work one uses the hat argument.

The hat argument?

Yes, the hat argument. One puts it on and walks away.

Paul,

You have refused to answer questions time and time again and as for a stockman injured in the bush being improbable; it's far more likely than the co-pilot of an air-liner deliberately crashing and murdering 149 people.

You refuse to answer why the Greens tell so many lies and why they make cowardly personal attacks on people under the mantle of Parliamentary Privilege.

You refused to answer why Shoebridge lied about the Lyndt Cafe terrorist having a gun licence and you refused to say why the lie is still on the Green's website, you refused to say why he and other Green MPs lied about Brian Boyle.

You continually denigrate the Shooters' and Fishers' Party and yet when challenged to shew where their MPs have lied you are strangely silent.

Could it be that the Greens stand for lying and that S&F stand for truth?

Big result for The Greens in NSW, with Jamie Parker retaining the seat of Balmain and Jenny Leong winning easily in Newtown. The Greens look on track to pick up the two country seats of Lismore and Ballina with a massive swing against the Nationals. This will lift The Greens numbers in the lower house from 1 to 4. No counting in the Upper House but The Greens should gain one extra seat there.
Both of the dinosaur parties can take little comfort from the result, although Labor gained a 10% swing they still have a lot of work ahead to establish credibility with the voters. The Coalition retained government with a reduced majority, but they too failed to really win the voters over with their sell off policy.
