Dear Paul1405,
I hope voting will not be putting faith in anybody. Defining faith as belief without evidence it is not a good way to operate. IMHO the best way to vote is for the least bad alternative, but remember that no matter who you vote for a politician will be elected. Posted by david f, Monday, 9 March 2015 10:17:30 AM

Strange bedfellows! Shock Jock Alan Jones and Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham are being sued by former Deputy Premier and National Party hack Andrew Stoner. What is Stoner's beef, the pair criticised him in relation to coal seam gas and coal mining project approvals. Stoner is a money man, having launched his action after Jones and Buckingham did not accede to his demand that they pay him a six figure sum as compensation. At the center of it all is non other than coal magnet Nathan Tinkler. After Labor bad boys Roozendaal and Tripodi were unceremoniously kick out of office Tinkler suddenly seen the light and become a generous benefactor to the National Party. Jeremy Buckingham said on Jones radio show, "Lots of money flowed from Nathan Tinkler and his interests to the National Party after they got into governnment, Andrew Stoner (for one) did the bidding of Tinkler.
Can it be that Stoner's action is designed to try and intimidate The Greens and others from speaking out and criticising the Nationals before the up coming election? Stoner is not re-contesting his seat of Oxley. Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 4:53:06 AM

The conservatives are battling corruption on all fronts! That is corruption of their own doing. Cocky Joe Hockey is spending a few days in court suing 'Fairfax Media' over their claim Joe was up to no good with their headline "Treasurer For Sale". Fairfax said if you paid over enough dosh you would have the ear of Treasurer Joe, no doubt with enough dosh you would hope that ear would be sympathetic to your way of thinking. Hockey claims a lack of knowledge of monies flowing to a shadowy Liberal organisation the 'North Sydney Forum'. And this CORRUPTION PARTY expects people to vote for them on March 28th!

I attended a "Meet The Candidates Forum' for the local electorate during the week. A great way for all candidates to put their position forward on a range of issues, answer voter questions etc. In typical Liberal fashion their "would-be if he could-be" was a no show, not offering an explanation, or an alternate speaker even though he was given the opportunity to do so. The audience (voters) were not impressed. Since I know him well I'll give him some stick next time I run into him, which should be this week.

The two big issues facing the state CORRUPTION and ASSET SALES are pivotal to not only how people vote on March 28th, but as to how the state will fair in the years to come. Both Labor and Liberal have gone rather quite on the issue of CORRUPTION, which is understandable considering both major parties are up to their necks in it. CORRUPTION has been proven to be systemic within both Labor and Liberal, and both propose to do little about it. If elected voters can expect more of the same in the years to come.
On ASSET SALES both parties appear to differ, with the Liberal demanding that to provide infrastructure to the State assets have to be sold, particularly the electricity grid. Labor claim to oppose this sale, but their previous track record in office speaks differently. History shows time and time again, with the selling off of juicy state assets, the people are worse off in the long term! Paying more, and left to carry the financial mill stones none want to own. What's the alternative, Paul, the Greens?
The Greens offer a whole raft of promises, completely unfunded and ill thought out, and leavened with their lies and prejudices. Posted by Is Mise, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 8:08:25 AM

Is Mise, The Greens have put forward a fully costed program for the upcoming state election, unlike some, The Shooters Party for example, who offer nothing worthwhile in the form of policy.
http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/nsw-state-election-2015/greens-nsw-pitch-20-billion-infrastructure-job-creation-and-housing-plan-to-voters-ahead-of-election-20150315-144ck6.html The Greens have cut a deal with the ALP to preference Labor candidates in 23 key seats, in return for Labor preferences in the LC, this should ensure 3 Greens are elected to the Upper House, for a total of 6. The Greens expect to retain the seat of Balmain and win the new seat of Newtown. Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 17 March 2015 10:09:21 AM

Its only a bit over a week out from the election, and I find it very disappointing that its been proven once again that "The leopard can't change its spots". Once again the ugly head of corruption has been raised. This time it is the Primer no less 'Bugsy' Baird from the corrupt Liberal party who has been caught out. What has this bloke's office been up to? Trying to influence an independent report into The Liberal's shonky electricity privatisation scheme.
http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/nsw-state-election-2015/nsw-election-2015-premier-mike-bairds-office-sought-to-influence-report-critical-of-electricity-privatisation-20150318-1m1ni9.html Another sinister mob have appeared on the political stage in NSW, another one of those so called one issue parties, like 'The Shooters Party' and 'The No Parking Meters Party' Some of these micro parties may on the surface seem rather benign with their so called one issue, but are they? The new mob, calling themselves 'The No Land Tax Party', have been throwing money around like confetti, lots of money, even been offering $30/hour for people to hand out HTV's on polling day for them, and a $500 bonuses if the party scores 20% vote at your booth, they seem to have lots of cash to splash. Who are they, no one really knows, least of all the voters. Since they have landed the number one spot on the Upper House ballot paper and with their seemingly endless supply of cash, they could win a seat. http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/nsw-state-election-2015-no-land-tax-partys-plan-to-increase-gst-20150317-1m181t.html Posted by Paul1405, Thursday, 19 March 2015 9:42:32 AM

With just 3 days to election day the corrupt Liberal Party has been caught out again. The Liberals tried to extract a donation from a banned donor a multi-millionaire Sydney property developer Peter MacCormick. of Napier Properties. Property developers have been banned in NSW from making political donations for obvious reasons since 2010, but the Liberal Party keeps on trying!

Paul,
The NSW Greens are so inept that the lie that was promulgated by them that the Lyndt Cafe terrorist was a licenced firearms owner is still up on their website; this shews a callous disregard for the truth that carries over into some of their other activities. http://nsw.greens.org.au/news/nsw/sydney-siege-shows-tougher-gun-laws-needed-now Posted by Is Mise, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 6:38:12 PM

Dear Paul,
It appears that Mike Baird is popular in NSW and two polls suggest that the Premier's Coalition government is set to survive a swing against it and hang onto several key seats to return to power after Saturday's election. The Coalition is ahead of Labor 54 per cent to 46 per cent on a two-party preferred basis. It will be a close one. However as one report pointed out there has been a approx. 10 percent swing against the government. It will be interesting to see how well your party does. I wish it well. Foxy,
The Coalition have a good lead in the polls, and Labor should pull back some of the disaster of 2011 (16% swing) they can't afford not to. I agree with the commentators Baird will be returned with a reduced majority. The interest for me is with The Greens, there is a new seat Newtown which we have a very good chance of winning, Labor are the main opposition, Jenny Leong has run a strong campaign for us. The Liberals are not in the hunt, particular with their 'Westconnex' road earmarked to disgorge its toxic mass in the middle of the electorate. The Liberal candidate and the its like in near by electorates all failed to front voter community forums a big no no in politics. A lot of interest in the Legislative Council vote, where the there is no majority. The Greens have 2 up for re-election John Kaye and Mehreen Faruqi there are 21 vacancies, we have a very good chance to pick up a third spot. Posted by Paul1405, Thursday, 26 March 2015 6:45:57 AM

Hi Foxy,
The reality in our democracy is without the dollars, you are very much handicapped when it comes to getting people elected. Plus the system very much favors the big two. So with TV ads and almost all the news coverage along with the big spend, the Labor/Liberal mob will pick 90% of the seats with 70% of the vote vote. I am an avid supporter of proportional representation. If you are following the election tomorrow keep an eye on a mystery mob calling themselves 'The No Land Tax Party' they have candidates in all 93 seats, and the upper house (the luck b's drew 1 on the ballot paper), they have been throwing money around like confetti, don't know where its coming from, (paying backpackers (who have no work permit to distribute their stuff). http://www.smh.com.au/comment/black-ops-and-skulduggery-attaches-to-singleissue-parties-20150325-1m7gwq.html Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 27 March 2015 4:32:16 AM

Desperate times calls for desperate measures, right Is Mise. Was that an attempt at a funny my boy. Trying to present a piece of satire as truthful news.
One who must be very nervous with this election is Bob Ballsup the incumbent candidate from The Shooters and Hooters Party. Like all previous one issue parties The Shooters and Hooters have outlived their usefulness, assuming they were useful to begin with, and they were not. Poor old Ballsup is staring down the barrel of a gun, from the wrong end, and looks likely of being blown away by another one issue mob in the shape of the No Land Tax Party. The Shooters and Hooters Party failed to gain any kind of a preference deal with anyone even the Free Cheese Party failed to warm to them and now poor old Bob Ballsup is on his own! Prominent NSW Green, Lee Rhiannon is the NSW Vegans' president and patron. Rhiannon is an animal liberationist. She is very unhappy with the culling of camels in central Australia, where they are in large numbers, destroying the environment.
Given that lightweight Shoebridge and other NSW Greens are 'Whatever she says' where Rhiannon is concerned -she is top dog of the 'Watermelon Greens'- it is very possible that the sausage would be under threat with the NSW Greens. Of course the comfortably-off Greens like the taxpayer-funded Rhiannon and Shoebridge would have other alternatives in the restaurants with big plates and small servings that they can afford (and probably taxpayer-subsidised too), but the humble 'surprise packet' sausage has always been an affordable source of protein for those on low incomes and pensions. Paul1405, you should be looking to protect your sausage, meatballs too, where the wild Rhiannon and her sycophants are on the loose. Posted by onthebeach, Friday, 27 March 2015 4:40:53 PM

is Mise, can't you come up with some original material of your own. I can't see the name of your favorite super hero Lance Boyle on the ballot paper, but its good that Bob Ballsup from the Shooters and Hooters is doing his own version of Colonel Custer and fighting till the bitter end! The Indians are circling. Cop that Shooters and Hooters mob, they have 4 different names Shooters and Fishers Party, The Fishing Party, Motorist Party and The Outdoor Recreation Party, they don't know if the want to fish, hunt koala's or do doughnuts in the dirt, or all three at once, can they make up their minds. Done some pre-polls this week, the Shooter and Hooter bloke made colonel Klink look serious.

Paul,
Here's some original material, originated by the NSW Greens, this from their "Principles", "7. That personal protection should never be regarded as a genuine reason for owning, possessing or using a firearm." Now I would read this as an attempt by the Greens to subvert the law which allows a person, in genuine fear of their life, to use any means available to save that life. Would the Greens deny a stockman, injured in the bush, the means and the right to save his life from feral pigs that are closing in on him, getting ready to eat him? Would the Greens have him prosecuted for using a firearm to protect his life. Of course they wouldn't, nor would any sane person; the question then is "Are people who can write such poppycock fit to sit in the NSW Parliament, where, one would think, a command of English would be a basic requirement. Perhaps 7. above has a different meaning, if so I'd like to hear it Posted by Is Mise, Friday, 27 March 2015 8:22:06 PM

Dear Is Mise,
Law is an imperfect instrument. Special cases may be cited where almost any law will not be fair all the time. We have in English common law the provision of double jeopardy. A person cannot be tried again if found not guilty even though new evidence shows that the person has committed a crime. However, if we did not have that provision the state could dig up reasons for retrying that person. If we restrict gun ownership there will be cases in which a person needs a gun and does not have it. However, there are also cases where a child will get a gun which is around the house and accidentally kill a family member. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States is an article giving statistics on gun related deaths. Apparently it is more dangerous statistically to gun owners to have a gun than not to have a gun. Peter Dutton, my member, would get rid of double jeopardy because of a case of injustice due to that provision. I would keep double jeopardy since I think getting rid of it would occasion more injustice. For the same reason I support the Green's position on gun ownership. Although one can cite anecdotes such as you did where having a gun would be good statistically there are more unnecessary deaths resulting from gun ownership than from the restriction of gun ownership. Peter Dutton probably has that position because he is a former cop and would not restrict the power of the state. You possibly have your position because you like to hunt and don't want your access to guns restricted. However, I think there would be fewer gun deaths if the Green's proposal were adopted. Fewer children might shoot their parents or siblings accidentally. Restricting gun ownership is an infringement on freedom. However, so is requiring a driver in Australia to drive on the left side of the road. Both restrictions improve public safety. Posted by david f, Friday, 27 March 2015 10:27:20 PM

Is Mise, the joke is "we can't have gun control laws because of a stocking injured in the bush and needing his trusty gun to fight off the feral pigs. How often does that happen?

davidf,
I wasn't refering to the law but to the Greens inept use of language which on the face of it would appear to usurp the right of the Courts to decide if the use of a firearm was justified. Do you also support the Greens in their continued use of the known lie that the Lyndt Cafe terrorist was a licenced gun owner? The Greens in their ideologically driven pursuit of law abiding gun owners would deny women any means of self defence, just as do almost all other political parties. David Shoebridge is a lawyer, how can a lawyer (who presumably understands the law) stand in Parliament and knowingly lie? Or is he simply misinformed by his advisers? Either way it shews gross ineptness by the Greens and consequently an unfitness to be in any position of power. Posted by Is Mise, Saturday, 28 March 2015 8:04:43 AM

Dear Is Mise,
Although I am a Green I do not support everything the Greens do. There is no party without flaws. I am not acquainted with the actions of David Shoebridge nor lies about the gun ownership of the Lyndt street terrorist. However, I think you brought up a subject and were fobbed off with a joke. You were not treated with respect, and I did not like that. That is why I made my comment which was responding to you. I stayed with my grandparents in the Adirondacks as a child. It was an impoverished area. Local people would usually avoid the woods during hunting season as inept city people would be shooting up anything that moves. After the season local people would go into the woods and shoot a deer to provide meat for their family during the winter. If I were a forest ranger in the area I would turn a blind eye to such activity. However, the Greens support care for the environment and social justice more than any other party. Their recent support for separation of religion and state by getting chaplains out of the public schools is another reason I am quite happy to be a Green. IMHO there is more that is good about them than any other party. I will have to live with the flaws. Posted by david f, Saturday, 28 March 2015 8:38:30 AM

Paul,
As I said to David, I was not referring to the law but to stated Greens policy that a firearm should never be used for self defence. If a firearm is used in such a way then it is up to the Court to decide if it was justified not the Greens. What the Greens may have meant was that self defence should never be a reason for being licenced, if so that is already the law. So as I said, inept use of language. On the fact that it is statistically more dangerous for gun owners to have a gun than not to have one, there can hardly be any argument with that other than that it is fatuous. Consider: It is statistically more dangerous for________owners to have a/an_______ than to not have one. Fill in the blanks. Suggestions: Knife, car, truck, aeroplane, pedal cycle, motorcycle, electric stove ad infinitum. Do you know that it is statistically more likely that people who use steel nibs and ink wells will accidentally stab themselves with an ink laden nib and thus acquire an inadvertent tattoo? David, the history of my discussion with Is Mise on gun laws in NSW over the last 12 months on the forum has seen Is Mise throw up these tedious odd ball scenarios including the highly improbable one about a stockman injured in the bush needing a gun to ward off feral pigs. over and over again. On many occasions I answered his concerns, so finally I did fob him off with a funny response. It would be respectful of him if he changed tack on this subject, instead of recycling the same old stuff over and over. What you conveyed to Is Mise in your intelligent response has been communicated to him time and time again by me, but unfortunately he finds that unacceptable.

Paul,
You have refused to answer questions time and time again and as for a stockman injured in the bush being improbable; it's far more likely than the co-pilot of an air-liner deliberately crashing and murdering 149 people. You refuse to answer why the Greens tell so many lies and why they make cowardly personal attacks on people under the mantle of Parliamentary Privilege. You refused to answer why Shoebridge lied about the Lyndt Cafe terrorist having a gun licence and you refused to say why the lie is still on the Green's website, you refused to say why he and other Green MPs lied about Brian Boyle. You continually denigrate the Shooters' and Fishers' Party and yet when challenged to shew where their MPs have lied you are strangely silent. Could it be that the Greens stand for lying and that S&F stand for truth? Posted by Is Mise, Saturday, 28 March 2015 7:48:32 PM

Big result for The Greens in NSW, with Jamie Parker retaining the seat of Balmain and Jenny Leong winning easily in Newtown. The Greens look on track to pick up the two country seats of Lismore and Ballina with a massive swing against the Nationals. This will lift The Greens numbers in the lower house from 1 to 4. No counting in the Upper House but The Greens should gain one extra seat there.
Both of the dinosaur parties can take little comfort from the result, although Labor gained a 10% swing they still have a lot of work ahead to establish credibility with the voters. The Coalition retained government with a reduced majority, but they too failed to really win the voters over with their sell off policy. Posted by Paul1405, Saturday, 28 March 2015 9:18:41 PM

Dear Paul1405,
Thanks for the news. I am in NZ until the end of the month, and your post is the first I have heard of the NSW election. One can expect the dinosaur parties to gang up on the Greens by exchanging preferences against the Greens in future elections. In NZ 85% of power requirements are supplied by environmentally friendly geothermal and hydroelectric processes. Wind farms supply some of the rest. Australia could exploit solar power to a much greater extent. I am in the peninsula above Auckland, and there are many signs against the incursions of the mining companies. Hi David,
Yes, The Greens have done very well in NSW, a strong pointer for the future is the number of "safe" dinosaur seats in which we finished second. The result in the new seat of Summer Hill, we ran a clear second with 40% TPP, a seat with a strong future for The Greens. We were also pleased with the re-election of the Independent Alex Greenwich in Sydney, Alex gained a 9% swing, so much for the 'Get Clover Campaign'it totally backfired on the conservatives, Clover is still Lord Mayor and Alex is in the state parliament in her place. The biggest failure of them all had to be the 'No Land Tax Party', a shadowy mob with no polices and plenty of money, they failed to register on the radar when the votes were counted. I'm also reasonably confident the 'Two Bobs' will become the 'One Bob' with Shooters and Hooters Bob Ballsup looking bad to retain his upper house seat, Is Mise wont be pleased as it could very well pass to Justin Field for The Greens. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-03-28/nsw-election-greens-balmain-newtown-ballina-lismore/6356098 Hi Is Mise, I answered your questions time and time again, once more for the dummies! <<You refused to answer why Shoebridge lied about the Lyndt Cafe terrorist having a gun licence and you refused to say why the lie is still on the Green's website, you refused to say why he and other Green MPs lied about Brian Boyle.>> David responded to a statement by Tony Abbott, and his response is there for the historical record, Boyle a responsible public servant in a sensitive position, was found to be cavorting improperly with the 'Two Bobs' from the Shooters and Hooters Party, and there was no alternative, Boyle had to be lanced! "David responded to a statement by Tony Abbott, and his response is there for the historical record," [Two and a half hours after the Federal police had corrected their mistake and told the PM that it was in error; that Monis did not have a NSW licence, so Shoebridge was lying, as usual, or his advisers were not on the job. If it must be left up for the historical record then there ought to be an explanation appended so that no one gets the wrong idea, until then it's a deliberate lie]. Boyle a responsible public servant in a sensitive position, was found to be cavorting improperly with the 'Two Bobs' from the Shooters and Hooters Party, and there was no alternative, Boyle had to be lanced! Boozy Barry seen to that. End of story. Regardless of what Boyle may or may not have done, you have still not said why Shoebridge & Co lied about him. The Greens certainly have done well, but Australian Democracy has suffered, but not much because they will be mere onlookers in the Lower House. Posted by Is Mise, Sunday, 29 March 2015 12:20:59 PM

Hi Foxy,
I am glad with the result, particularly with the win by Jenny Leong in Newtown. Jenny is not a natural politician but put in a huge personal effort over many months. Labor's Penny Sharpe was an excellent and very experienced opponent and the ALP lost nothing with Penny, they threw every thing they had at the seat in time and money, but Jenny stuck at it even though at times others were prepared to write the seat off as a Labor win. The hard job began this morning, representing the people of the area, people who may not be seen as "normal" by some of us, a little odd even, but never the less deserving of a voice just the same, now they have one in Jenny. Certainly the best thing to come out of the whole election for me. Is Mise, I'll take David's advice and apply the 'hat argument', like the dog with a bone, you hold on to it, and chew away to your hearts content. Posted by Paul1405, Sunday, 29 March 2015 2:32:53 PM

Gee, Is Mise I've been so accommodating with your questions and concerns. I've tried everything to set you upon the path of the righteous GREENS
I have been your GREEN shepherd, you shall not vote Liberal. I maketh you to lie down in GREEN pastures: I leadeth you beside the GREEN waters. I restoreth your GREEN soul: David leadeth you in the paths of GREENESS for his name's sake. Yea, though you walk through the valley of the shadow of Liberals, You will fear no Liberal: for thou art with GREENS; thy David and thy Lee they comfort you. Thou preparest a GREEN vegan table before you in the presence of Father Bob Thou enemies the Liberals: thou anointest your head with Tofu; your cup runneth over with chardonnay. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your GREEN life: and you will dwell in the house of the Lord Bob for ever. Posted by Paul1405, Sunday, 29 March 2015 6:35:44 PM

Thou dost not explaineth why the Greens lieth through their molars, nor hast thou answered the questions.
If thou seekest a job as a commedian, I would adviseth that thou stay'th with thy present mode of employment. Posted by Is Mise, Sunday, 29 March 2015 9:48:35 PM

Is Mise, the good folk of New South Wales have spoken, and through the democratic process have returned a conservative government. However in four seats the people have placed their faith in The Greens to represent them, and they will do that to the best of their ability.
Like the rabid rightwinger Beach you are most likely miffed at the Greens success, but that is how a democracy works. You can prattle on about what ever you want to for as long as you want, but the votes are in and the result is there for all to see. One of the more pleasing aspects of this election was the total failure of the so called 'No Land Tax Party' these dubious people used copious amounts of money in an attempt to buy a slice of power, and failed. I am not an admire of any of these so called one issue parties, like the Shooters Party or The No Parking Party etc. I have seen first hand the actions of the Shooters Party in the NSW Parliament These shooters representatives have been prepared to trade their vote for some small concession related to their one issue. That action is not necessarily in the best interest of their constituency. Posted by Paul1405, Monday, 30 March 2015 9:10:10 AM

Paul,
The S&P's constituency is shooters and fishers and they have represented them well. What's more, unlike the Greens, they have not stooped to lying to achieve their aims. Of course I may be wrong on this, if so, please give me an example. Posted by Is Mise, Monday, 30 March 2015 9:30:43 AM

Come off it is Mise, are you saying people who vote S&F, when they not shooting they are fishing 24/7. The be all, and end all, of their shallow lives is that, shooting and fishing is their total buzz, and all else matters not! Strange. When it comes to the ultimate phony name it must go to Rev fred's Christian Democrats, a mob who are neither christian or democratic.

Come off it, Paul, are you saying that the S&F don't represent their constituents?
The people that elected them are farmers, shooters, firearms owners, gun collectors and recreational fishers and conservationists. Posted by Is Mise, Monday, 30 March 2015 2:29:25 PM

There is a difference in NSW from the other two states. The elephant in the room for the big two is CORRUPTION within. The last four years has seen a conga line of politicians from both parties making their way to the witness box down at the ICAC. The outcomes have been shocking for both parties, with findings of corrupt activity by their members on a number of fronts, stand downs and resignations galore. Even the man who won office for The Coalition, Barry O’Farrell on an anti corruption platform, had to go following adversity before the commission. The man who replaced Keneally for Labor, Robertson, had to resign following a well documented stuff up with the Martin Place nutter.
Will the people vote for more of the same from the big two, or will they chart a new course and pin their faith more in minor parties and independents, I hope they do
