Good evening to you STEELEREDUX...

Gee wiz, we're giving this whole multicultural thing a real 'doing over' aren't we ? There are those, who support M.C., and there are others who do not ! The question of individuals placing graffiti on Mosques and other religious building, of a kind that's clearly derogatory or offensive to Muslims should not be tolerated by police. The act of 'criminal damage' occasioned by the application of graffiti to the building, is viewed quite seriously, and police should act in order to discover the author of the crime.

Another thing that seems to escape most people, including you STEELEREDUX...You can introduce legislation, appoint any number of of 'Commissioner's of Ethnic Equality' ? But at the end of the day, you simply CAN'T legislate, people's hearts and their minds ! In an attempt to either communally embrace these migrants, or even pretend to 'like' people of a different ethnicity or religion ?

It's natural, the more you compel people, the greater the resistance will become. Until, as a result of all your legislative coercion and compulsion, you ultimately precipitate a strong backlash which creates a far greater loathing of these immigrants. To a point where they're even viewed with total abomination and hatred. It should be noted herein, this process is a decisive reciprocal activity ! And in some countries, results in civil war.

The big plus for freedom of speech and a distaste for censorship is that it permits SteeleRedux, Foxy and others to vent their spleen against their fellow countrymen. Or at least against those considered 'white' whom they thoroughly despise.

There is no evidence whatsoever to support the allegations in the OP or the OP poster's later posts or in the posts of his/her supporters to even suggest that Australians are racist or that the censorship and denial of free speech of repressive laws are required to control the good citizens of Australia.

As I said earlier, where are the facts, show me the evidence, because what is available from police reports proves the exact opposite of what SteeleRedux, Foxy and others habitually allege and insinuate against Australians.

What about some attention for the real vulnerable in society, such as the elderly, because there is only just so much money available from that bucket of taxes taken compulsorily from other working citizens. How can young working couples ever hope to have children themselves when they are forever groaning under the millstone of extra taxes to support the victim advocacy professionals and their eternal 'victims' who swing from the government teat?

Whither freedom of speech and can the young Aussie taxpayer afford more years of the victim industry?

@Foxy,

<<unless you are conceptually and ethically impaired - you should be able to see the problem>>

Yep, it seems that I must be conceptually & ethically impaired --I'll just have to rely on you to explain it--looking forward to reading your analysis.

Steel, I think you will find that most people against the Muslims are actually, like myself, against the religion, not the people.

As for our multicultural nation, I didn't vote for that, did you?

Dear SPQR,

Any explanations would be a waste
of time to a conceptually and ethically impaired
person.

Dear SteeleRedux,

There is so much on the web dealing with the issues you've
raised in this discussion - from a variety of sources.
Here's another link that may be of interest to you:

http://www.smh.com.au/national/racism-on-the-rise-in-australia-migrants-report-cultural-shift-20140405-365a5.html

The article tells us that -

"Dealing with prejudice is a way of life for many Australians.
Being harassed on public transport, not getting a job interview
because of your Middle-Eastern-sounding name, or missing out
on a rental property because of your skin colour..."

We're told that the latest Mapping Social Cohesion Survey by
the Scanlon Foundation found 19 per cent of Australians were
discriminated against because of skin colour, ethnic origin
or religious beliefs last year. Up from 12 per cent in 2012.
It was the highest level since the Survey began in 2007.

Experts attribute the rise in everyday racism to economic
uncertainty, the surge in asylum seeker boat arrivals and
the current political leadership that wants to weaken parts of
the Racial Discrimination Act.

When George Brandis declared "People do have the right to be
a bigot you know," he virtually gave the 30 per cent of
Australians who feel uncomfortable with cultural diversity
tacit approval to air their prejudices - as comments on this
discussion and others in this forum show us.

It is interesting that the proposed changes to the
Racial Discrimination Act will be judged by the standards
of the privileged majority, not the affected minority.
The majority will determine what is racist.

All of us have our prejudices - against the rich or the
poor, the smart or the slow, the gaunt or the obese, the
progressive or the conservative, and so on. It is natural
to develop prejudices.

It is noble to rise above them.
