Dear Shockadelic,

I am not just talking about citizenship. I am talking about humanity. A person regardless of skin colour, ethnicity or religion is as human as you or I. Apparently you would reject a person whose skin colour, religion or ethnicity doesn't match yours.

Fortunately all Australians don't see it your way. The White Australia policy has had its day. It belongs to the unenlightened past.

Foxy,

Why do you think it is OK to pay temporary migrant workers less?

It is interesting that you don't see any social justice problems or possible conflict with social security, labour and immigration legislation.

Bazz said "Well, there probably were no populations of that size easily available. But they did try, and a lot of populations said oh yes, yes we will become moslems. So they saved the effort"

Might I just add that non-Muslims were heavily taxed but for those that converted the tax burden ceased to exist; as a conversion scheme it was a roaring success but like all tax minimization schemes it soon increased the tax burden for all. There was lamentation and gnashing of teeth.

onthebeach,

Don't temporary migrant workers receive the same award rates as others? I would have thought that the unions would want this.

Or am I very naive?

Dear Is Mise,

The no tax for Muslims was not a conversion scheme. In the early period of the Muslim conquests the Arab armies regarded Islam as a religion for Arabs. They discouraged conversion and even punished those who tried to convert as it would lessen the money received in taxes. It was only later that Islam became a missionary religion and non-Arabs were a target for conversion. Everybody, Muslim or not, was later liable to pay taxes, but there was an extra tax for those who were not Muslims.

Shockadelic,

Sorry about that, I missed your earlier post.
"My definition of "White" doesn't change depending on the "context".
It means People Of European Ethnic Descent."

Glad to see that by 'white' you don't mean colour, but don't you find it inconvenient that so many English and other European people have Negroid ancestors?
