You, as I did, can be forgiven to think Manus Island was some hell hole in the Pacific.

The 730 report will certainly put an end to that.

What a hide these labor fools have in forcing Rudds baggage on these peace loving people.

The other irony will be the way these illegals get cared for, three square meals a day and free accommodation, meanwhile, the locals have to hunt and gather in their lost paradise.

I hope every single voter here sees this vision.

Even taking into account selective Journalism, still makes one ashamed to be an Australian.

Shame on you Mr Rudd. Pathetic

PNG is not part of AU, REChub has turned green all of a sudden.
Lets not forget there is no running water there, Au is building a plant for them.

I agree, rehctub.

Doog,

"Lets not forget there is no running water there, Au is building a plant for them."

The only reason Oz is building a water plant is because it needs one for its gulag.

...........

I remember when an Australian mining company went into PNG and silted up the Ok Tedi River.

Completely destroyed the environment and the livelihood of the local population...but built them all sorts of things they had never needed before.

If it's good enough for the UNHCR it's good enough for PNG.

Hold on rehctub, paradise is not lost on Manus Island! It might be some what different to what it was. That huge stinking pile of rubbish directly linked to the detention centre isn’t pretty, but overall, the lifestyle of the people there continues relatively unimpinged upon. Manus is a big island, some 150 kilometres long. It is hundreds of times bigger than Nauru!

I think you are overcondemning Rudd for reopening the detention centre on Manus.

The original offshore detention centre policy worked. It was a damn pity that the Rudd/Gillard mob didn’t see fit to quickly reimplement it quickly after Rudd’s unbelievable destruction of Howard’s border-protection policy, instead of waiting until the number of arrivals had really escalated.

Rehctub, you are rightly extremely critical of Rudd for reopening this whole massive can of worms. I would have thought that you'd support the same sort of policies that Howard introduced, including the reopening of the Manus I facility.

It's funny how on the one hand we apologize to our indigenous for ruining their way of life, (although I don't agree) yet here we are, sttingnus up for another fight, but I guess it's ok, because we don't want to live there, we just want to impose the locals with Rudds garbage.

Now, while on the subject of Manus, if Howard was guilty of similar, then shame on Him as well.
