But Poirot;
They did get the gold from Ok Tedi remember that.
Its the ends that justify the means and we see it again on Manus.

Paradise lost or paradise best left for the native people. No sewage no running water, hot beer. Paradise in nature only. Sounds like a good place for dislodged gate crashers. What do these people live like where they came from. Mud huts, No sewage, they should feel, just like home.

Rechtub can we take it you are against Abbott,s tent city on Nehru?
An upgrade to take an extra 2000 there has been announced as his policy, I support it.
In fact wanting the boats stopped and I do, it seems strange at the least to see your view here.

I wish I could say to any overseas readers of OLO that those do-gooder with no answers but full of silly snapping aren't Australian but i think the damage has already been done.

.....Manus is a big island, some 150 kilometres long. It is hundreds of times bigger than Nauru!

Ok Ludwig, so let's assume we put them on Frazer Isand instead, after all it's about 75 km long, with a few residents, so we should be able to house at least half, and why care about the locals there.

My point is, you don't fix the problem by dumping Rudds garbage on someone eleses island.

As for the running water comment, it's a bit like saying our aborigines hadn't even invented a wheel before we came along.

The flip side of that is, did they need to!

So perhaps these locals dont really need running water, especially if it comes with a price tag of the distraction of their peaceful island paradise.

doog you are missing the point, it's the garbage that is left to rot that is the problem.

Now on the other hand, if these people were happy to live there and also live off the land, provided it could support them, then perhaps it would be ok, but given their recent riot, I somehow doubt it.

Belly, if 2000 in tents means more of the same, then I don't think it's the right thing to do.

Unfortunately though, Abbott is simply trying to fix a problem that he did not cause.

As fir the problem, my view is still that we need to address the problem from where it starts, Indonesia.
