address the problem from where it starts, Indonesia.
rehctub,
I somehow believe that Indonesia is not all that much to blame after all they're doing successfully what we are unable to do, pass on the boats. I would suggest that they're a lot smarter than our lot. I mean you can't really blame them from toeing the line when Mecca calls the shots. Just look at the millions of westerners who scramble when the Pope sticks his head out of the window & they're supposed to be more enlightened than those shown the way by their Indonesian friends.

The boats operate under the Indonesian flag, have Indonesian masters and crews and operate out of Indonesian. There is a lot that Indonesia could and should be doing to meet its obligations under the international rules for ships at sea.

Indonesia is evading its responsibilities. One reason is that it gets rewarded by Rudd for doing so - Rudd gifts Indonesia more ships, a plane and other incentives.

Indy look bloke not sure who your latest swipe is aimed at.
Not taunting or targeting you, but your words best describe *you*
Rechtub it is true bloke that long ago, we went past what is right or wrong in the way we handle these folk.
You endlessly call for an end to the boats, as I do.
Nothing we do is done without us being told we are cruel, even here.
Do you understand.
Your statements here put you in the heart of greens policy.
Both sides while shadow boxing have the same policy now, Nehru on your side PNG on mine.
EVEN IF both Islands are used, filled to the brim, it may take a decade to stop the boats, under any government.
IF we ignore the fact low life criminals are prospering from the trade.
And boat people challenging us to try to stop them, we will see it is not our task to put these folk up in the Hilton.
Harsh living conditions may be the best reason not to get on a boat.

Turnbull looked like a fitting person for the libs; but he has gone and disgraced himself, investing in a company set to gain mega millions from govt; contracts. The man is a fraud, and corrupt.
Abbott is stuck in gear as abusing the govt ; is all he knows at the same time endorsing their policies.
Treat the boaters like the UN treats them, tent cities. It's wrong for these people to gate crash with no ID and then expect 5 star accommodation.

Belly,
I'm merely saying that if Indonesia can pass them on then why can't we ? Why are our Navy boats going to within 40 or so km off the indonesian coast & then bring the boat people here ? Turn them back at the half-way mark & spend our aid dollars in detaining them in Indonesia. Once Indonesia has more than they can handle they'll stat to turn them back as well. As I said the Indonesians are a lot smarter.

What makes you think the Indonesians know where these people are, or how many. They emerge from the jungles when there is a boat available.
They don't advertise the fact that a boat is waiting or where. The only ones in the know are the smugglers. It's not easy to turn a boat back. What are they going to do when you are not looking [ how many boats we got how long is the Indonesian coastline. ]
