Well, Pericles, with statistics like that we certainly don't need any 'outsiders' adding to the mayhem. (Shucks, chuckle, chuckle.)
But, we are a toothless tiger. Send anyone back? Where?
And, we appear powerless to stop them coming anyway.

In any event, our judicial system is a joke. We were recently witness (via TV news video footage) as a bouncer in Melbourne punched a female full in the face by total reflex and without batting an eye - and he, the bouncer apparently had been previously convicted of assault, and so should not have been licensed to be a bouncer.
End result? Goal time? No way! He walked! This guy was (and is) a public menace, but cops a literal 'slap on the wrist'.
Just another example of our non-punitive legal system.
If we keep going this way, will come a time when home detention will be the norm (on full welfare), and Bondi Beach will be reserved on weekdays for convicts to take their leisure.

Time for a severe and comprehensive review of Law and Order.

Mind you, we surely need to improve our refugee detention centres, providing meaningful occupation and training for all, including growing food and skilled production workshops (including relevant trades training and apprenticeships), with inmates earning a reasonable wage for their efforts. Then, with expansion to provide individual housing, quality farmland, top-class recreation facilities, and bursaries for attendance at outside universities.
Mind you, their education will have to include 'indoctrination' into our way of life. That will assuredly teach them not to come uninvited.
(Though the above is a bit tongue in cheek, I do think we need to improve our refugee detention facilities, and speed up claims processing, but I don't see how we're realistically going to stop people wanting to come here unless we can provide even better facilities and opportunities in their countries of origin.)

Where to put the 'Refugee-proof Fence'?

Saltpetre The 'Refugee-proof Fence' is easily solved it is called doing what the UN do give them a tent some food and water then return them home when safe (The UNHCR's global budget for this year is $3.7 billion)
We spend more than that on the ones we have here.

Take away the monetary and all the other incentives they will soon find another country to bleed dry.

Go to your front door put up a sign EVERYONE WELCOME and start giving them money, food, legal aid, doctors and accommodation ALL FOR FREE AND FOR LIFE, they will keep coming as long as you are giving out all the handouts.

This is the type of story the rednecks on here don't like.
Mr Wahid, a bus driver who came to Australia as an Iraqi refugee in 1999 and is now an Australian citizen.

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2013/04/30/19/26/sydney-bus-driver-saves-passenger-s-life

Or the story of Taxi driver Hassan Charouk;

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/national/sydney-taxi-driver-saves-woman-from-fire/story-e6frfku9-1226611162937

Tell me rednecks how do you compare to these two gentlemen? Most likely not to favorable. Yet given half a chance you would throw them out of Australia just to satisfy your bigoted perceptions.

Some people apparently do not read the smh article. These blokes are bringing the Syrian civil war here. The Croats and Serbs bring their civil hatreds and conflicts here. Some of the blokes are here in Aus 3 generations and yet they continue with hatreds that go back hundreds of years.

Look at Iraq, Sunnis and Shites are still blowing each other up. The fruit juice shop was fire bombed and hatred between Croats and Serbs resulted in gunfire. This is not violence because of too much alkahol, the violence and hatred is handed down from generation to generation. It is part of these peoples culture. Hatred is taught from the cradle on and we can do without that rubbish here.

These people hold our laws and society in contempt. It is high time we had a serious look at MC and our immigration policies with the concept that we stop further immigration of those groups that will not integrate, or hold their culture above our laws and standards.

We are not giving our communities a chance to dilute the hatreds because we continue to refresh the hatreds by importing others from the original countries.

Paul1405 - So by giving a persons name probably middle eastern and 1 refugee who did the right thing you try to imply that means all refugees are good people nice try but an EPIC FAIL on your part.

Labor has let our country be invaded by around 30 to 40 thousand people and you by giving 2 names mean they are all of good character, court records, ASIO assessments and millions of dollars damage say you are wrong.

Increasing our refugee and immigration intake is inducing ever increasing numbers to board leaky boats for the 'promised land' - after all it is directly advertising our willingness to be accommodating.

We should halt all immigration, refugee and otherwise, and just stick to 457 visas to fill any skill shortages (with the ability to offer these workers residency after 4 years if they meet all relevant criteria, or of simply giving them a plane ticket home if they don't. Win, win.)

Maybe potential 'voyagers' would get the message then that we only want what we want, and the rest can take their chances elsewhere.
Hard-hearted, maybe, but it appears that our formal and informal immigration budgets would be better spent providing overseas aid to improve the 'lot' of potential boat-people either in their home countries or in their adopted initial 'refugee' locations.

The resolution of regional conflicts and animosities (read prejudices) giving rise to flights of refugees will be a tough task, but a necessary one, and simply moving people to refugee centres or to 'adoptive' countries is ignoring or forestalling any genuine resolution of the problem.
Time the West bit the bullet and embarked on a full-blown program to promote peace and prosperity for all (instead of building bigger and better bombs).

As for overt ethnic, cultural and religious rivalries - we are 'full up'.

We should stop immigration now, as part of a program to stem world over-population while there is still time.
(Anyone who thinks over-population is not already a major problem has not addressed this issue seriously.)

The only way to stop the boats is at point of origin.
All 'refugees' here now should be processed swiftly, and either placed within our community if meeting relevant criteria, or if not, then set up in permanent fully serviced 'villages' with means to become self-sufficient over time, until they can be relocated back to their country of origin or to some other suitable adoptive environment - our borders are 'closed' and uninvited 'guests' are no longer welcome.
