Dear Banjo,
What on earth are you sprouting now? You stated “These issues will escalate unless measures are taken to stop them.”. Read the bloody article, the people involved are facing the full force of the law. They are being stopped. What you read as religious or ethnic hatred can just as easily be seen as pure criminal extortion dressed up very loosely in other clothes. The story of Protestant Irish migration to Australia in the 1920's had similar echoes. “The Pearsons, like so many other Protestant families, eventually left for Australia, after Sydney (a brother of Abraham and Richard) found a note on the plough warning the family to get out. And one wonders how many other Protestant families were forced from their lands not because of some political rationale but because envious neighbours coveted their fertile acres.” This is not a case for dismantling anything. Yeah, I'm wondering about violence in our so-called civilised society in general.
I had to dissuade my son from watching the "regional" news because it was choc-o-block with the most vicious assaults committed daily in our regional centres, non-ethnic related. The strange thing is that I gave him permission to watch the regional stuff as opposed to national and international news because I naively thought that it would be about regional issues...instead every night the first 15 minutes of news was devoted to who had assaulted or murdered who throughout the south-west of our state. I decided that the last thing an eleven year-old needs is to have his head filled with that every evening. So what about it, Banjo? Yes, ethnic rivalries and old hatreds can lead to violence...but there's plenty of violence in our communities which have nothing whatsoever to do with ethnicity. Pretending we're jolly good fellows except for the imports ignores our own home-grown problems Posted by Poirot, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 1:27:50 PM

Banjo I side with you 100% here.
Ignore csteele, he/she has form for overlooking things like this. EVERY ONE should read Banjos link, alway a center for migrants to settle Bankstown and surrounds is no longer safe to live in. Former Italian Migrants have left long ago. The shootings and murders Sydney has started here. This story in that link is one Muslim side victimizing the other. In one lifetime, mine, the surrounding areas mentioned have become dangerous for Australians and some migrants to walk the streets at night. What may take place in the lifetime of a child born today depends on our two party system hearing its concerned voters.Or our child will see car bombings and hate on our once proud streets. Four Corners reveals that:
"The latest figures show that each year as many as 70,000 people are involved in alcohol-related assaults. In all, it's estimated that alcohol-related violence costs the community $187 million each year." Indeed true. I do think the same. There should not be any ethnic violence among the political parties. I a place where we have to live together why should this happen. This is all according to me because of the low education or sort of wrong education. This is not what it suppose to be.

Pericles, Lexi, and Poirot, you guys are missing the point. All societies have a violent underside…perhaps excepting Switzerland and Monaco.
We have ongoing ethnic crime and violence in all our cities, as the formation of the Middle Eastern Crime squads around our nation attests to. What we are discussing here is sectarian violence, which we did have in our short history courtesy of the Irish Catholics and the Protestant Irish and British immigrants…..But that was two or three generations ago…we do not do that today. We have imported a fifth column who will react physically to other Muslim sects and political rivals. Yeah guys we need that like a hole in the head…which is exactly what they dole out on the streets of Sydney every second night. Posted by sonofgloin, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 5:30:31 PM

Banjo, this Ahmed Elomar is making a name for his little self isn’t he?
In all the items reported on his frisky lifestyle the same scenario unfolds “he led a group of men” or in this case “twenty men emerged from a roller door following old Ahmed.” They are like a disease, they are fine one on one, but when they hit critical mass they need to be beaten back into submission. That’s how they do it back home, and that is how they interface with others here. This scum Ahmed is gutless without a support network, and the social engineers have allowed them free reign to form these pseudo religious/criminal empires. We once had a Consorting Squad (OSW could tell you) and they were in the crims faces every day, letting them know who runs this city….not now. Twenty zealot muslim blokes came out a roller door….they wouldn’t be so keen if the cops plagued them…it works. But they have rights in the new Australia, the politically correct joke our society has been governed into. Banjo those who see these acts as “like” Australian crime, no different, have not got a clue of how despised they are by these cowards and zealots and that is the pitiful part. Well, Pericles, with statistics like that we certainly don't need any 'outsiders' adding to the mayhem. (Shucks, chuckle, chuckle.)
But, we are a toothless tiger. Send anyone back? Where? And, we appear powerless to stop them coming anyway. In any event, our judicial system is a joke. We were recently witness (via TV news video footage) as a bouncer in Melbourne punched a female full in the face by total reflex and without batting an eye - and he, the bouncer apparently had been previously convicted of assault, and so should not have been licensed to be a bouncer. End result? Goal time? No way! He walked! This guy was (and is) a public menace, but cops a literal 'slap on the wrist'. Just another example of our non-punitive legal system. If we keep going this way, will come a time when home detention will be the norm (on full welfare), and Bondi Beach will be reserved on weekdays for convicts to take their leisure. Time for a severe and comprehensive review of Law and Order. Mind you, we surely need to improve our refugee detention centres, providing meaningful occupation and training for all, including growing food and skilled production workshops (including relevant trades training and apprenticeships), with inmates earning a reasonable wage for their efforts. Then, with expansion to provide individual housing, quality farmland, top-class recreation facilities, and bursaries for attendance at outside universities. Mind you, their education will have to include 'indoctrination' into our way of life. That will assuredly teach them not to come uninvited. (Though the above is a bit tongue in cheek, I do think we need to improve our refugee detention facilities, and speed up claims processing, but I don't see how we're realistically going to stop people wanting to come here unless we can provide even better facilities and opportunities in their countries of origin.) Where to put the 'Refugee-proof Fence'? Posted by Saltpetre, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 6:33:35 PM

Saltpetre The 'Refugee-proof Fence' is easily solved it is called doing what the UN do give them a tent some food and water then return them home when safe (The UNHCR's global budget for this year is $3.7 billion)
We spend more than that on the ones we have here. Take away the monetary and all the other incentives they will soon find another country to bleed dry. Go to your front door put up a sign EVERYONE WELCOME and start giving them money, food, legal aid, doctors and accommodation ALL FOR FREE AND FOR LIFE, they will keep coming as long as you are giving out all the handouts. This is the type of story the rednecks on here don't like.

Some people apparently do not read the smh article. These blokes are bringing the Syrian civil war here. The Croats and Serbs bring their civil hatreds and conflicts here. Some of the blokes are here in Aus 3 generations and yet they continue with hatreds that go back hundreds of years.
Look at Iraq, Sunnis and Shites are still blowing each other up. The fruit juice shop was fire bombed and hatred between Croats and Serbs resulted in gunfire. This is not violence because of too much alkahol, the violence and hatred is handed down from generation to generation. It is part of these peoples culture. Hatred is taught from the cradle on and we can do without that rubbish here. These people hold our laws and society in contempt. It is high time we had a serious look at MC and our immigration policies with the concept that we stop further immigration of those groups that will not integrate, or hold their culture above our laws and standards. We are not giving our communities a chance to dilute the hatreds because we continue to refresh the hatreds by importing others from the original countries. Increasing our refugee and immigration intake is inducing ever increasing numbers to board leaky boats for the 'promised land' - after all it is directly advertising our willingness to be accommodating.
We should halt all immigration, refugee and otherwise, and just stick to 457 visas to fill any skill shortages (with the ability to offer these workers residency after 4 years if they meet all relevant criteria, or of simply giving them a plane ticket home if they don't. Win, win.) Maybe potential 'voyagers' would get the message then that we only want what we want, and the rest can take their chances elsewhere. Hard-hearted, maybe, but it appears that our formal and informal immigration budgets would be better spent providing overseas aid to improve the 'lot' of potential boat-people either in their home countries or in their adopted initial 'refugee' locations. The resolution of regional conflicts and animosities (read prejudices) giving rise to flights of refugees will be a tough task, but a necessary one, and simply moving people to refugee centres or to 'adoptive' countries is ignoring or forestalling any genuine resolution of the problem. Time the West bit the bullet and embarked on a full-blown program to promote peace and prosperity for all (instead of building bigger and better bombs). As for overt ethnic, cultural and religious rivalries - we are 'full up'. We should stop immigration now, as part of a program to stem world over-population while there is still time. (Anyone who thinks over-population is not already a major problem has not addressed this issue seriously.) The only way to stop the boats is at point of origin. All 'refugees' here now should be processed swiftly, and either placed within our community if meeting relevant criteria, or if not, then set up in permanent fully serviced 'villages' with means to become self-sufficient over time, until they can be relocated back to their country of origin or to some other suitable adoptive environment - our borders are 'closed' and uninvited 'guests' are no longer welcome. In a formal debate, Parliamentary or Oxford style returning serve on your opponent, who you clearly disagree with or for sake of debate pretend to.
Should not be by putting evidence in no way related to what has been said up is a blind, nothing less. Lexi a kind hearted girl of much merit, and Pericles have done that here. What has the Milpera Massacre more than 30 years ago got to do with today? Well a lot! not the authors weak link to our thread, but the unchallengeable truth! those gangs now have more middle eastern gangsters as members that ever before. Lexi sweetly remembering the Auburn/Granville, so many suburbs from her, and my, youth. Those places, as they had been live only in Lexis mind. Even Liverpool is subject to street shootings and murder, Sydney police, PUBLICLY! have told us they are sick of our sick western suburbs murders. In debate, any debate, you can tell when your point has hit home, the rebuttals become disjointed and unrelated to the very real problem. If we could take the western Sydney suburbs, and emerging non Australian culture, and dump them in any city in this country, we would se many eyes opened. Phillip S; I did not, nor do I say or imply ALL refugees or ALL immigrants are good, like any groups in society there are good and bad members. Some of the rednecks on here continually beat the drum about how bad these evil people are. I simply tried to add some balance to the argument, showing there are also good people. You are one of those guilty of extreme bias, as demonstrated by your comment "Take away the monetary and all the other incentives they will soon find another country to bleed dry." may I add this is the thrust of all your comments on this subject. You and others continually run a hate campaign on this forum against innocent children, women and men, people you do not know or understand. unfortunately your attitudes are of those of the extreme right in our society. a form of bigoted fascism.
It has been my experience from meeting many recent arrivals that they are in general nice people, these are people of the ethic backgrounds you and others continually like to demonise. Because a person is different in language, custom and culture does not automatically make them bad. I am sure you and others here have had minimal contact with new arrivals, and with your predigests isolate yourself from such different people. We in The Greens spend a considerable amount of time engaging with ethnic groups and individuals, and loan behold their aspirations are very similar to ours, after nothing more than a better life for there children and themselves. And how often have many of these people expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Australia for giving them this better chance in life, something most thought would never be possible, countless. I used to live in Cabramatta & Guildford in the early 70's & I remember as 21 year old having my fair share of stubbies & walking home at midnight, no problems whatsoever. Police used to have a giggle & the cops made their sarcastic remarks but that's as tough as it used to get.
It was only a few years later when ALL the people I knew in Cabramatta had moved out because of the failure of the new immigrants' to integrate unlike their predecessors from Europe. Posted by individual, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 10:33:29 AM

Maybe I'm mistaken but is it not the case that your spouse or significant other in non White/ non native born? You're biased in favour of migrants and biased against White Australians. You do understand that nobody beside Greens uses the term "Redneck" in this country? I know quite a few Greens members including relatives of mine and they always use "Redneck" instead of White, Australian, Aussie etc. The Greens are a racially biased and elitist political tendency, many of them are outright bigots, nobody outside your own circle sees you as good people and a growing majority of people really hate you, that's the truth of the matter. Dear Belly,
Violence is unfortunately part of our culture whether you want to admit to it or not. All you have to do is turn on and listen to the news. How many people are attacked in pub brawls? How many die or are in comas after these attacks. How many are blinded or murdered? As Four Corners revealed the latest figures show that each year as many as 70,000 people are involved in alcohol-related assaults and it's estimated that alcohol-related violence costs the community $187 million each year. As well as the damage that is done to the victims. There's a growing body of evidence that shows a link between binge drinking and brain damage. We seem to have a culture of bullying as well, and its growing. You can't just ignore something like that and continue to blame only "ethnics" on violence. Violence is part and parcel of our society, unfortunately. We need to look at why violence is happening and how to fix it. Lets also not forget the criminal element in all of this, including Bikie Gangs. Posted by Lexi, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 11:21:00 AM

Violence is unfortunately part of our culture
Lexi, I have to agree with you on that. Just look at the course football is taking here, more & more aggression is being tolerated. In fact it appears that the violence is the actual drawcard for the so-called fans. Having stated this undeniable sad fact I must however point out that the violence imported courtesy of middle eastern immigrants, is a totally different & far more sinister kind. It has festered for centuries & there's no cure apart from ...... Posted by individual, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 11:57:11 AM

Oh Lexi, you always seem to be looking on the nice side of any controversy.
What we are seeing here is the Baghdadisation of a part of Sydney. It is the way they are, and they do not see any reason to change. How long before car bombs become the weapon of choice ? Any move to integrate them will result in the usual attacks on Christians. So I am not sure that integration would be a good move. The best we can hope for is that their doctors will try and convince them not to marry their cousins. After all, now they are living in cities there is no need to keep the land in the family. If they can be convinced, it might be bred out in three or four generations. All peoples have violent gangs, eg the razor gang in Sydney in the 20s. However what we are seeing here is very different, it is either racially or religiously based and has been going on for more than 1300 years. It will not stop because they have moved to another country, because it is not about land or country. All Islamic countries have this dangerous war. Yes war, because that is what it is as their religion cannot tolerate people of other religious belief or worse no belief. Posted by Bazz, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 1:44:36 PM

Dear Bazz,
I'm sorry I simply can't lump all Middle-Eastern people into the one group. And tar them with the one brush. That doesn't allow for individual differences. I feel that many of us seem to know very little about non-British migrants or their cultures and the problems they are facing. What I think would help would be programs that would bring about greater ethnic awareness throughout our communities. And of course, education and training should also be on the government's agenda for these communities. It would open up more opportunities for young people. Lexi, We're not talking about the two or three good ones, we're talking about the masses who aren't good. Just like in our society the handful of good ones have to toe the line & that in turn leaves us with that huge problem that is being imported at our cost & to our detriment by our utterly incompetent bureaucrats backed by just as incompetent academic do-gooders. I agree with individuals last post! We can not avoid, without avoiding honesty, not all Muslims are in any way bad. And we should never! ignore the truth many are not to be trusted. If we left our biases in the bucket by the door, and looked at both sides of this issue. We would find during the war in Lebanon Fraser did us no favors , opening the door without checks, to criminals. A third generation of that stupidity is now active in crimes this country never saw, in this huge numbers. IF any one can without bias show me proof, these and other Muslim community, in part have not bought a culture with them of guns and murder exclusion from us, and in many places even a hatred then I will stop telling the truth about the dreadful illness this country continues to import. When is the motley collection of rednecks going to realise the World has changed. There are now some 7 billion people on the planet with only 23 million of them inhabiting Australia. There are at least 40 million possibly 60 million refugees in the World, add to this the billions who are poverty stricken and you should realise the enormity of the problems facing the planet. Australia can no longer isolate itself from these realities; the days of Banjo Patterson are long gone. Ever how much some here desire 'Fortress Australia' and believe it is achievable with a gunboat mentality, it’s not possible within the context of the World environment that we must exist in. We cannot expect to trade with the rest of the World, selling cheap raw materials and buying manufactured good etc, all this to give us the good life in our Shangri-La state of Australia. There is a mistaken belief by some that a jackboot approach is the answer and it will 'protect' Australia from reality and negate our responsibilities and at the same time isolate us from the rest of the World and all its problems.

Chrisgaff,
True, but what people like Paul 1405 believe is that two wrongs make a right, watch the video, if Hitler were alive today he'd be supporting open borders for the nations he wished to destroy, heck it's pretty much what he supported back in the 1930's anyway, getting rid of people he didn't like and filling up the places in which they lived with people he did like . If one group is intentionally displacing another or causing fear, apprehension and negatively impacting their quality of life and ability to access community resources and facilites under international law they are committing acts in preparation for genocide. Under international law and most national "civil rights" legislation the scale or severity of the impact of one group upon another before genocide can be said to be occurring is not defined, the U.N convention is worded so that genocide can be nipped in the bud before it gains enough momentum to succeed. Here's one example of preparation for genocide from Asuza in California; http://www.justice.gov/dea/divisions/la/2013/la011513.shtml Paul 1405 and other so called "Anti Racists" can interpret the word Genocide in their way, I can interpret it in mine, my definition is closer to what's happening on the ground in many parts of the world and theirs is just more abstract because they're invested in a narrative view of history and current affairs. What's happened to the indigenous British or to the Negroes in Asusza and what's happening in Burma or Sudan are all the same thing, it's just a difference in scale and intensity, look at it this way, an unattended candle is as dangerous to your property and your life as a bushfire, it's just a matter of scale. There needs to be pointed out that drunken violence is not premeditated as is ethenic violence that is born of ethenic hatred. They are not related!

Well said! I doubt too many thought or think drunkenness is comparable to the murders in Sydney streets.
And plays no roll in the imported culture of hate and separatism. I am weary of threads such as this. WHY well truth is not able to shift some, most of who have no contact and little understanding of the depth of this problem. Take this Challenge if you are brave enough, read on line anti Australian hate pages. In place in the hands of third generation Australians! See the Granvill high rants on line. And know, we too will suffer a Boston , see the hate is real the horrible truth remains we imported trouble. And STOP! please stop! quoting t5he brilliant successes of past streams of migration, you commit fraud. Those Migrants and Children of the Children of migrants share mine and our fears and concerns! Dear Belly,
I find it very sad that you don't recognise the violence that does exist in our society and you seem to target only a certain group of people for it whereas the reality is much more complex. Alcohol does form a very big part of the violence we see on the news each night, as does crime. As do other social factors. I am concerned but you continue with your simplistic finger-pointing. Young men who get glassed in hotels and lose their eyesight don't seem to bother you as much as talking about "ethnics" with hatred in their eyes. What about the hatred in the hearts of the young men who attack others for no apparent reason? We need to look at the causes and try to find solutions, because the problems will not go away simply by finger-pointing and being divisive. It should not be a "them" and "us" situation. We're all of us in this together. Posted by Lexi, Thursday, 2 May 2013 4:22:36 PM

cont'd ...
I think that something truly bad has happened to our public discourse. Take politics as an example. I have never in all my years seen the hatred as I have in recent times. Julia Gillard has been spoken of in the most appaling terms and Labor supporters don't want to see Tony Abbott merely questioned they want to see him eviscerated. The confected anger that has been the stock-in-trade of some radio broadcasters and columnists has done its work and has unleashed a nasty, anti-social and destructive power that has real consequences for the cohesion of our society. What this country desperately needs right now is a more open and compassionate approach towards each other. Posted by Lexi, Thursday, 2 May 2013 4:34:48 PM

Lexi.
I pointed out the cause earlier, a big share of the breakdown in civility is due to this very vocal self hatred among a segment of the White community, your mother would have said to you "You can't expect others to respect you if you don't respect yourself". Other races don't do this, whether it comes from Christian guilt or just a form of neurosis specific to Europeans I couldn't really say but other ethnic groups will defend their customs and history without question and with absolute conviction.Go tell a young Turkish kid that he's "Turk Trash" and should should feel guilty for the Armenian genocide and see what kind of a reaction you get. The broader problem is forced egalitarianism, when you use state force to impose an ideological solution to practical problems you will always get the opposite result to the one you hoped for. Thomas Sowell has long been a voice of reason on these issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGuNNyOTRnI Everyone in this country has the same options but people have different tastes and set themselves different goals, some people really do want to grow up to be drug dealers and gunmen or spend their lives on the dole just as sincerely as others want the white picket fence, and as Sowell says in his works, when you're going to theorise about ethnic groups you really have to look at the things they CHOOSE not to do, the professions, customs and social activities they shun rather than benchmark them against some nebulous concept of what group should be achieving. Dear Individual,
How about you adding something more to discussions then just one liners. One liners are fun every now and again, but when they're done all the time - it lowers the bar in the debate. Posted by Lexi, Friday, 3 May 2013 10:04:51 AM

Lexi,
I get more response from the short ones because the longer a post the least they're comprehended by those who need others to think for them. Posted by individual, Friday, 3 May 2013 5:33:47 PM

Lexi,
We are waiting for you to give us the answers now, on how we are to have a more open and compassionate approach towards each other. I have suggestions but they cannot be enforced on society. It is easier to deal with drunkedness by limiting the amount of alcohol taken home, by returning to 6 pm closing of pubs and venues that serve only alcohol; that alcohol only be served with meals after 6 pm. Not so easy to deal with ethenic hatred by legislation. Posted by Josephus, Friday, 3 May 2013 8:23:30 PM

But Josephus,
The amount of alcohol taken home 'isn't' limited. Pubs and venues that serve alcohol 'aren't' closed at 6pm. The serving time for alcohol 'isn't' limited to after 6pm. We all could dream up a wish list. Lexi is dealing with things as they are....reality. Posted by Poirot, Friday, 3 May 2013 9:02:38 PM

Poirot,
I agree with Josephus. I deplore the ammount of violence in the community and that put down to alcohol could be reduced by reducing the availability. For example, I think it is only vested interests that prevent the reintroduction of 10 o'clock closing. No guts politicians. We have more than enough violence here now and we do not need to import more. I started this thread higlighting ethnic violence, which is ignored by politicians (no guts again). The ethnic violence i referred to is cultural and religous violence which is handed down through the generations and the hatreds are embedded. The only way to limit this is to stop immigration of people from those groups that have demonstrated to us that they cannot or will not leave their cultural hatreds behind when they come here. This means having a discrimatory immigration policy in the intersts of an hormonous society, but that will not happen because it would take guts to implement. So I expect the ethnic violence to escalate as we continue importing those with cultural hatreds. Posted by Banjo, Saturday, 4 May 2013 10:08:24 AM

Reality check.
Thinking about the future, how many would imagine that a worldwide conflict-free homogenous multicultural society, with or without any national boundaries, is achievable any time soon, or indeed preferable to other possible and peaceful long-term options? We see all the rivalries and inequities, for which there is no easy solution. Would we lay down our lives or our way of life for a questionable outcome? Would those in China, the U.S., Bahrain, Brazil or elsewhere? Should we expect them to? Immigrants from various troubled or third-world countries cannot help but be concerned for those left behind, and many will feel anger at the contrast with our obvious decadence and carefree lifestyle. The strong-willed may continue to harbour grievance; the moderate may just take advantage of opportunity to assist those at 'home'; and the meek may forget the past entirely and fully embrace the Aussie stepladder. A portion will remain confused and conflicted. A melting pot, and to what end? My vision is for a stable network of autonomous, trouble-free and resilient nations, with all abiding by and supported by an effective UN charter for cooperation and the advancement of human affairs. Each nation with a 'home', culture and identity, maintaining human rights, law, and peaceful resolution of internal and external disagreements. We may 'adopt' a small number, and 'integrate' a portion, but not without many 'teething' pains, and the problems abroad will remain, festering. Concerted international foreign aid, education and development, or 'Nanny State'? Many peaceful nations with their own 'quirks', or disseminated maelstrom? (How many more centuries to bury all hatchets?) Posted by Saltpetre, Saturday, 4 May 2013 3:12:02 PM

Saltpetre - It is May 4th and in 4 days we have 645 economic invaders come here, remember this incompetent Government BUDGETED for 450 per month. Since August we have had over 15,000 guess what at least 12,000 are single age men. If people can't see a problem in the future something is wrong.
One of the boats is an inter-island ferry carrying 160 coming into Darwin, the Indonesian police would have had to know what was going on. Posted by Philip S, Sunday, 5 May 2013 12:42:16 AM

This is disturbing and an issue that ALL political parties have ignored in the past.
This incident the smh reports on is not the first occasion of ethnic violence. Croats and Serbs have had violent clashes, with firearms involved. Remember violence between Iragies here at the first election in Iraq. The Soccer people had to change club names to try and curb violence. Gangs of Lebs have been involved in bashings of others. Melbourne apparently has seen violence by and between African refugees. There has been violence between Sri Lankan groups, resulting in acid attack.
These issues will escalate unless measures are taken to stop them.
I advocate two means. 1. Completely dismantle the multicultural policies as it encourages ethnics to carry on with the same hatreds and alien cultures from their opriginal country. 2. Stop Immigration of those groups that have demonstrated to us that they hold their original culture above our social standards.
It is all very well to say immigrans should leave their old hatreds behind, but we should recognise that some do not, or can't. We can well do without inter ethnic or religous/ political violence.
