Tony Abbott was foolish to go along with the gw fantasy in the first place. He mislead Turnbull which was plainly wrong. In saying that it is a relief that the mums and dads are not going to be robbed by the Government just so Mr Rudd and Ms Wong can skite in CopenHagen. Fancy being low enough to slug heavy taxes on people just to look good in front of other socialist. Talk about selling out national interests.

I support Turnbull in his desire to do something about climate change and to have the gumption to align the opposition with the government on this. But really, with the concessions that his party has won, which weakened an already weak package, it is pretty useless.

In fact, it is worse than useless because it essentially means that we’ll be able to continue with business as usual while pretending to do something meaningful about carbon pollution reduction.

This means that Minchin and his ilk may well be right in that an ETS (a piss-weak one of the sort that is on the table) will just destroy jobs and raise prices without achieving anything tangible in terms of climate change, renewable energy and sustainability.

And then we’ve got the layer that no one seems to be talking about at all. This is our very rapidly growing population and consequent rapidly increasing CO2 output, which would continue to happen even if the average per-capita output was to be reduced a bit. This just makes a complete mockery of the concept of significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions even if we did manage to implement a reasonable ETS.
