"Would a successful prosecution and possibly even jail time
make Donald Trump a martyr and make worse the ugly divisions
he's launched on the country?"

Donald Trump did not launch ugly divisions on the country.
Those divisions within the country were already there and are part an parcel of the Democratic party's identity based / race-based platform.

What Donald Trump did was to challenge the Deep State / Military Industrial Complex / Washington intelligence and bureaucratic class who colluded against him and actively undermined him during his Presidency.
Donald Trump also posed a risk to NATO and US foreign policy makers; and also including US senators from both parties (i.e 'The Uniparty')

A successful Trump prosecution in the face of all the evidence against his opponents could alternatively lead to a civil war.

Hillary had a private server deliberately kept from Congressional oversight that many foreigners had accessed but she was never even charged with a crime, by the same bias investigators.

There's no doubt whatsoever it's a witch hunt with political aims.
The US has deep problems with a corrupt political class.

The problem of Trump is that he's a threat to many on the Republican side as well.

"Is Trump fit for office?"
- Biden doesn't even know what year it is.
He can't speak for 5 minutes without making some moronic gaffe, trails off and rambles incoherent crap time and time again.
He'll have no chance in a debate with Trump or RFK Jr with his continued cognitive decline, and past corruption now exposed.

I'm not sure how the Democratic Party will find a way out of this mess, especially with RFK Jr running himself, but with a corrupt bureaucratic class and ability to censor or influence the media anything is possible.

If 'The Donald' is in jail, maybe his mate President Putin can pardon him in exchange for Ukraine, seems reasonable.

A few more thoughts:

If Joe Biden really wants to deliver on his promise
to heal the country he could do it with one-action -
Pardon Donald Trump.

Having Trump go on trial is setting a bad precedent which
could eventually lead to Presidents of both parties going
after their political enemies.

Pardoning Trump would also defang him and his claims
that the Biden Administration "weaponized against me," from
the very beginning, and more.

Keeping Biden's promise of healing the nation alive - would
be a step in the right direction.

After the 2020 election, when asked what Trump's legacy would be, I opined he would be remembered as the last democratically elected leader of a once great democracy.

Since then I've seen no reason to change my opinion.

Third world banana republics lock up their political opponents. Trump is being tied up in frivolous 'crimes' in order to stop him running again. They (the Democrats) are terrified that he'll be so popular he'll get more votes than they can fabricate. There is only so much cheating you can do before it becomes obvious to even your most loyal supporters.

Just two issues (and there are dozens of them) show just how corrupt and partisan the US 'justice' system has become:

The Hunter laptop. We now know that the laptop was in FBI hands a full year before it was released to the public. We know that the FBI already knew it was authentically Hunter's. Yet instead of acting on it, they hide it from all and sundry, including the president (Trump) and when they couldn't hide it any longer they leant on a compliant media to actively censor it. If that happened in any other country in the world, the US would be talking about sanctioning that country for violations of the rules of democracy.

2. Trump is charged with holding classified documents. His home was raided to recover them. Yet we know that the Obamessiah has/had classified documents without anyone raising a peep. And we know that Biden had classified documents in several locations that were way less secure than Trump's holdings. Crickets there also. We even know that Pence had classified documents. Crickets. We are told that Trump must be charged because no one is above the law. Except of course all of Trump's political opponents.

I would expect nothing less from a devout Trumpster, and sycophantic American toady! Thank you mhaze. America is a corrupt joke, with an incompetent old fool as the so called President, with an criminal dill brain waiting in the wings to once more assume the top job!
