Many Americans regard the separation of religion and state as a restriction on their freedom. They want to proselytize and push their religion with little or no restriction. The Supreme Court justices that Trump has appointed would tear down the separation as would the Southern Baptist Convention. The latter is the main source of dedicated Trump supporters. They ignore the fact that the first unit of government any place in the world to have an explicit separation of church and state was the Rhode Island colony presided over by the Baptist minister who I admire, Roger Williams.
