"Kidman receives Order of Australia, Friday Apr 13
Nicole Kidman received her Order of Australia in a ceremony at Government House in Canberra.
Accompanied by husband and country singer Keith Urban,
Kidman lined up with other recipients to receive her
2006 Australia Day honour, after turning down the
offer of a private investiture.
The actor was appointed a Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AC) last year but international commitments prevented her heading home to receive the award in person.
Wearing a demure shell-pink frock with a burgundy velvet ribbon in her hair, Kidman received her award from Governor-General Michael Jeffery in front of a crowd which included her parents Janelle MacNeille and Antony Kidman.
The Oscar winner won the prestigious gong for her contribution to the arts, as well as her charity work, including efforts to improve medical treatment for women and children and advocacy for cancer research.
Urban nodded encouragingly as Major-General Jeffery recounted the contribution his wife had made to the arts and to charity.
"I think the great thing about you, Ms Kidman, is what have you have done to better the human condition," the Governor-General said.
"You have become an honorary ambassador to UNICEF and UNIFEM (the United Nations Development Fund for Women), you're looking after children and women's issues.
"You've been a great support for children at Sydney hospital and a great supporter of research for cancer.
"Not only are you a tremendous actress but you are ... a great attribute to the nation."

then Google search "Les Twentyman" and read about a man in Melbourne who has slaved his guts out everyday for decades helping homeless teens.
He is completely broke, but a GENUINE selfless charity worker.
NotOurNic could sling him $100,000 in a heartbeat without altering her life one whit, and do more good than all that waffle described above.

I had to walk out of the room when I saw the tv footage. WHAT charity work? She does a once-a-year flash visit to the hospital, phones in an interview and spends her entire time making movies and promoting them. In her speech, she kept giggling, as if she was saying something tremendously entertaining and yet again mentioned doing her parents proud and also yet again, kept referring to herself when she was 'a little girl'. And yes, what about Les Twentyman? What an amazing guy. But have we ever seen him invested with anything by the governor general? It's a sad, sad comment on the pathetic society in which we live.

Well, what fading, washed up, attention starving celebs crave the most is the constant fawning and compliments. So when they no longer recieve it for their movies, or they're stuck in a image tarnishing marriage, they get their PR firms to set up these types of "awards and presentations", which i have no doubt this is... a I'll scratch your back...etc etc. It keeps them in the spotlight. Again I'm glad it's relegated to Australia, no coverage that I had to be subjected to. Now i only wonder when her Australia movie comes out and tanks, will these same people still hang around to throw her these accolades?

Well, the other Kidman spouse has bit the dust and been admitted to rehab. Botaxia's sister's husband, Angus has entered a clinic for alcohol and drug addiction here in Sydney. I feel sorry for the Kidman parents. Both daughters having their husbands end up in rehab. Could be a tad embarrassing for the father since he's a psychologist.

Really, is that so, morgan? You have to start wondering how these sisters were raised, to make such terrible choices in husbands. It must make celebrating the holidays, New Years for instance, a real challenge, like say, putting a gun to your head and playing russian roulette. Yes, I'm sure pappa, the psych, is very proud of his daughters. Just makes you remember that having all the money you may need is convenient in buying a new townhouse, or a fleet of limos, it cannot give you the moral soundness to make ludid decisions, whether its your personal relationships, your charitable work, and it most certainly cannot buy you a hit movie if your taste is as shallow as kidman's.

To further my past thought on botoxia lack of PR backing for her last movie, it now seems pretty clear she just can't catch a break any longer... after her minimalist promotion for Fur, and it's immediate failure, and her quick jaunt to Kosovo, to walk throught a local field, she was met with a hung over urban, and then subsequent stint in rehab. And then when they tried to have their aussie happy reunion at the end of last year, they were chased out of Austalia by the same papparatzis they hoped would just regurgitate their phoney pr stunt. and just now, on the same day of some cooked up medal of "aggrandizement", the story of her sisters husbands rehab stint is attached also. Looks like that little stunt accident on the reshoots of her next movie is a pretty accurate metaphor for a career careening out of control, like a wagon whos wheels are beginning to fall off. It would probably be wise to jump off, but I doubt if she is capable of making any other decision. If she didnt make movies, what could she do?
