Lockdowns and border closures may calm those fears, but they will kill far more people than a virus ever could.

People who are carrying a killer virus can't be allowed to go on spreading it far and wide! There can be no voluntary decision to quarantine oneself, then remember I forgot to get some milk or bread or the iced vovos?

Then cross half a state just to fill the order! Drive past check points at speed, to deliver illicit drugs/get a supply/pay off Mr Big, who always seems to be untouchable? But will want the borders reopened ASAP along with the cashflow from illicit drugs!

When we had madatory quarantining as a response to the Spanish flu pandemic, we got on top of it and killed it off! And the way forward with any killer virus! At least until we get an effective vaccine!

A test that gives results in seconds ought to be deployed at every entery and exit point and at bridges vehicles cannot drive around!

With effective testing and tracing deployed, we can get back to business as usual, albeit with social distancing, hand hygine and medical masks still the new norm!

After that we need to spend on shovel ready infrastructure. Until all the ablebodied are gainfully employed!

And some of them will bitch, moan and complain about having to work hard at physical labour, live in tempory boot camps, and live a thousand miles from home for up to six or so months!

Because that will be what is required to do really big, bold, infrastructure projects!

And we will need to roll out several to build a big enough economy to #1/ make the debt just dissappear, #2/ leave something behind that the next generaion can utilise for the debt burden and workload they're expected to carry!

Massive social housing, An east coast VLT, an inland shipping canal that changes our climate forever! Waste burning MSR's Deionisation dialysis desalination. And millions of hectares under salt, drought and frost tolerant native wisteria, for the oil and high protien stock feed it produces, better than all the rest, along with that legumes ability to fix nitrogen into the soil.

I find you idiots depressing. Nature will have her way. The same proportion of people will get the virus everywhere and the same proportion will die from it! All the lying politicians and medico's will not stop this it will just take longer but obviously not as long as the economic effects of this madness.
Did you know the Flu in 1918 killed proportionally more black (Is this the way we are supposed to say it today? Perhaps one of you SJW can tell an old bloke?) people? Another irrelevant fact of life I expect to be given a run soon.
I think we need to view the true figures which are being hidden from us but wait till you start losing your money and then you will certainly look at it differently.
Enjoy your prison serfs and your faces will be a picture when you realise your political mates are going to do you all in along with me. However at least I can say I did not want or enjoy it whereas you have to grin and bear it!

Well I was so impressed by Herr Andrews and his Gestapo cracking down on the poor and not intellectual sort of people like this. You would have thought he considered them as his primary base but no, off to the camps with them. You weaklings can hide under your beds and wet yourself but you will find when you grow up that there is more to leadership. The dearth of it in Australia is a real worry but eventually common sense will prevail.
When the facts come in you will have to cringe and go back under the bed whilst Andrews will not only be collecting his fat pension but a million a year from some Chinese Company owned by so called communists. Revel in your victory, gloat and feel superior but they will be coming for you next!
Read 1984 again and see where all this came from and how you identify with his fat neighbour. He ended up in a labour camp remember. Also stop calling yourself Australians you besmirch the word!

Dear Jbowyer,

You write;

“Did you know the Flu in 1918 killed proportionally more black (Is this the way we are supposed to say it today? Perhaps one of you SJW can tell an old bloke?) people?”

No it didn't. Why is that you right wing apologists just never seem to be able to get a single fact straight? This is what happened during the 1918 pandemic;

Quotes

Philadelphia Tribune wrote that in West Philadelphia, “hundreds are lying now at the point of death, colored and white” but added, “There seems to be more influenza and deaths among white people than the colored people.”

The Chicago Department of Health in its analysis of the influenza epidemic concluded, “The colored race was more immune than the white.”

Dr. W.H. Frost of the U.S. Public Health Service reported that in seven localities with substantial black populations, their incidence rates were lower than white people's even after adjusting for sex and age.

A January 1919 editorial in the Journal of the National Medical Association pointed to data from the Philadelphia Board of Health that showed that between September 20 and November 8, 11,875 white people died from influenza and pneumonia and 812 black people died. The editorial called the racial differences “interesting” because the death rates of African Americans in the city were “normally much higher than that of the white.”

An additional study analyzing the influenza rates between black and white soldiers concluded that African Americans were not as susceptible to the disease when they lived under good hygienic conditions.

End quotes.

I don't know which cesspool you lot are pluck these tropes from but it is getting embarrassing.

Please stop.

Thanks, Sr.

Many people have died in developing countries from this virus, but to be honest, I thought there would be many more, that the virus would be completely out of control in those countries, and in Indigenous communities here. Of course, that still might happen.

But I wonder if hard lives actually help people to build up their immunity, that getting flu etc. when they are young provides some resistance to later viruses.

In other words, that fairy-floss snowflakes and wealthier people who run to the doctor when they slightly stub their toe or have a runny nose, don't build up immunity to viruses like poorer people may do. Perhaps poorer people develop some form of herd immunity much more easily than well-off people ?

Just a thought :)

Only 61 days, our time, until the Covid election. I anticipate that Trumpf will show amazing imagination in blocking people from voting against his corrupt and incompetent rule, including incitement of violent groups. By November 3rd, by the way, Covid deaths could exceed a quarter of a million in the US.

And, Ttbn, around a thousand across Australia. Keep the lockdowns, I say, until the virus is suppressed sufficiently to be under control. Of course, it may never be eradicated, that's a pipe-dream, but suppression is better - will allow the easing of restrictions earlier - than laissez-faire.

Quite a lot of people who would normally not seek employment nor vote Conservative, have done better under some of the present schemes than they'd normally do.
Those who have traditionally struggled are still struggling !
