Singer, if you posted something similar on Desert Peace to what you include in your predictable articles, I can understand Steve's reaction.

I have followed Desert Peace for many years and I admire Steve's conviction that peace between Israel and the Palestinians can eventually be achieved. I don't hold his viewpoint, not given the intractability of the Israelis and the fact that they view Palestinians as sub-human.

I didn't get my view of Israel from Desert Peace either. It came from watching thousands and thousands of new reports on television, from reading thousands and thousands of press reports from newspapers that report the real news, from watching Al Jazeera, from watching the Israeli bombing of the Gaza and the use of phosphorous munitions, from seeing the atrocity in Jenin, from watching Palestinians being thrown our of their homes, from seeing the corpses of Palestinian kids who'd been head shot by Israeli snipers, etc, etc.

I would urge OLO readers to ignore your so-called 'report' on Desert Peace and visit the site regularly for a month or so and form their own opinions.

And I would urge that you put a bit of balance in your articles for a change, perhaps even include some admissions about Israeli brutality and cruelty and stubborness!

David, the Desert Peace website seems to be all desert and no peace. It's obvious Israel is not practising genocide, so they had nowhere to go. But why you should expect me to behave like they do is beyond me. The same baseless accusations of genocide have also been made by ideological fellow-travellers of theirs against colonial Australians, but I achieve nothing by trying to shut these sorts of debates down on On Line Opinion. They just migrate to echo chambers like Desert Peace.

If you want the Desert Peaces of the Internet to multiply, force those who express these sort of extreme unsubstantiable views off contested internet space into their own intellectual ghettoes.

You don't stop them making the accusations, you just make it less likely they will be challenged.
