A few month months back Andrew Laming successfully sued the Nine Network and (y)our ABC journalist Louise Milligan for defamation.

We discussed it here.... http://forum.onlineopinion.com.au/thread.asp?discussion=9917#338335

Now, in an act of unexpected principle, the Walkley Foundation have decided to strip the offending 'journalists' of the awards for excellency in journalism that they'd previously been given for the story. Wonders will never cease.

Hilariously, the Nine boss has called the decision "a very concerning precedent". Taking awards off people who should never have received them is "concerning"?

I guess the concern is that, if this becomes the principle, journalists all over the country, particularly those who seek to target right-of-centre men, will be handing back all sorts of awards. Or more concerning still, awards for shoddy hit-jobs won't even be given. Who knows? They might even stop publishing these fact-free attempts to bring down men with unacceptable views. And we can't have that.

Yes. I was surprised by the 9 comment. The scribblers were wrong: the award they wrongly received was forfeited. The media certainly lives in a world different from the one the rest of us inhabit if that is "a very concerning precedent".

Let's hope it is indeed a precedent for future media unjustified trashing of someone's reputation

Laming was a waste of space, rightly given the "A" by Morrison, enough said.

"Laming was a waste of space, rightly given the "A" by Morrison, enough said".

What an ignorant, pointless comment. mhaze's post was about the appalling behaviour of the media, and the surprising punishment received by reporters responsible for concocting stories about another person. Laming was the victim, irrespective of what some attention-seeking lefty thinks of him. Everything is politics with Paul 1405. Had the same thing happened to one of his Green idols, he would have been gloating and cheering the removal of the awards from irresponsible scribblers.

Laming might rightly be regarded as not the sort of person we want in politics (who of them are?), but he is entitled to a fair go and justice; so is his family.

More to come? The Walkely Foundation has admitted that it should remove awards from reporters and media networks whose stories are later proven to be wrong.

It might be better if they waited longer in the first place. It is not like the Australia media is particularly noted for its accuracy or honesty.

Vindictiveness seems to be a Green trait.
