No, Yuyutsu. We do not all have trouble with the law. I certainly do not. You, on the other hand, might, given your concern about having to wear a helmet when riding a bike. Some time ago, but I remember the fuss you made about it.

Different 'from', Jack; not different 'to'. You can get advice on grammar here, but not on the law. Just pay up and shut up, unless you want to end up in jail.

Jack

Get onto A Current Affair, which has glorified a 17 year old idiot for standing on the side of the road warning motorists about speed cameras ahead. They will make you into a hero.

Dear Ttbn,

«No, Yuyutsu. We do not all have trouble with the law. I certainly do not.»

Alright, so if you accept it to be legitimate for others to impose their laws on you, then you are not a chicken (like me) or a wolf (like Jack) - then you are a sheep!

How would you feel about the law, for example, if the Greens came to power (democratically of course) and legislated that you may not gender-discriminate who you sleep with; that you may not hold or use cash; that you must donate 95% of your wealth for the development of "clean" energy (and the rest once you die); and that you must install a robot in your home who will follow you 24/7 to make sure that you always use correct "earth-friendly" practices?

Yuyutsu,

Please try to be realistic.

Dear Ttbn,

«Please try to be realistic.»

I agree that this specific example/scenario is quite unlikely.

But that means that you accede in principle to the tyranny of the law only because you believe that such terrible things can only happen to others, not to you.
